🌅 History & Setting The Barn, which sits adjacent to the Log Cabin, has a storied past. Built in 1857 as part of a working farm, it played an essential role in the local community for generations, supplying milk and meat to County Durham and beyond.
In 2007, we (Paul & Claire) became its proud owners. Over the years, we restored and modernised The Barn while keeping its historic essence alive. In 2023, we built the Log Cabin—sourced directly from Finland and handcrafted on-site—adding a new chapter to the estate’s rich legacy.
You’ll notice special touches throughout the property, like:
A dry-stone wall built from historic Seaham sea defence stone
Granite plaque & wrought iron gates marking the estate entrance
Stone turret with cross & knight inspired by Durham Cathedral
Highland cow emblems made of pebbles and local art
Wild pond with ducks, geese, and a resident pheasant
📍 Location & Local Attractions Situated just 15 minutes from Durham City, our cabin offers the perfect balance of peaceful seclusion and easy access to local attractions:
Durham Cathedral & Castle – a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Durham’s museums, restaurants, and historic streets
Local walking & cycling routes from the doorstep
Oakenshaw Nature Reserve (a 45-minute circular walk with 3 lakes and birdlife)
Family-friendly play park just down the road
Whether you’re after cultural sightseeing, outdoor adventures, or quiet countryside strolls, there’s something here for everyone.
