About this property
Swallows Barn, set on a working farm in foothills of the Peak District
Swallows Barn was formerly a shippon for cows which has recently been renovated to a high specification. The cottage is set on a working sheep and beef farm surrounded by farm land, streams and the River Dane. Farm walks, picnics and fishing are a feature of your stay here - as well as enjoying lambs, calves and wildlife in the farm fields. The Cottages are conveniently located being close to the pretty market towns of Macclesfield, Congleton and Leek and the spa town of Buxton. They are also conveniently positioned for visits to a wealth of National Trust properties, the Roman City of Chester with its zoo and race course, and the vibrant cities of Manchester and Liverpool. Beautiful countryside and scenery is all around and for the walker, then Bosley Cloud, Macclesfield Forest, Teggs Nose, the Roaches and Hanging Stone are a must. Sailing, fishing, golfing, horse riding, mountain biking & cycling are all nearby. Jodrell Bank with its Lovell telescope is close by as is Alton Towers theme park. An 18th century brick built building, Swallows Barn has been sympathetically converted to create a light, warm, spacious and comfortable cottage with two en-suite bedrooms - to sleep four persons. Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen / living / dining area with oak beams, underfloor heating and a luxury wood burning stove. A fully fitted kitchen including dishwasher leads to a separate utility room with washer / drier, sink unit and a separate downstairs WC. The living area has a feature fireplace, comfortable seating and a 40" flat screen freeview TV with DVD player. Superfast fibre broadband is free to use. Books, games and information on local attractions are stored within the sideboard. The dining table seats four person albeit it will extend. A generous sized under-stairs cupboard is provided for useful storage space. The oak stairs lead to a small landing to the two en-suite bedrooms. One room has a double bed and the other has twin beds. Seating is provided outdoors and a garden. The Peak District is within reach with its glorious scenery, villages, historic houses, and gardens. A visit to the Pavilion gardens and the Opera House in Buxton is a must when visiting this area. Chatsworth House - known as the 'Queen of the Peaks' is approximately one hours drive away. This area has something to suit everyone of every age and every interest.

Brenda is an amazing host, super friendly. The cottage is a really beautiful old building with all mod cons. The place was spotless, the cleanest place we have stayed for our whole trip. Thanks for hosting us!
Excellent location for visiting Cheshire and Peak District. The cleanliness and standard of the furniture and fittings in the cottage could not be faulted and Brenda was very helpful. Outdoor space not private.
Absolutely fantastic property and location, Brenda, the host was very helpful throughout the booking process and during our three week stay, she really couldn’t do enough for us.
Swallows Barn is easily accessible from Congleton with a short drive through Buglawton and was a home from home on our stay.
We stayed at the cottage for a long weekend for a wedding at Heaton House wedding venue. We had a super time and the cottage was so comfortable and lovely. Barbara is such a lovely lady and was so welcoming. We would definitely recommend this cottage and would love to return some time again
Lovely bright clean spacious property with all that is needed for a home away stay. We had modern appliances, books, tvs towels etc. wonderful! Thankyou.
Really lovely accommodation, very comfortable and very clean. The cottage had everything you would need to make you feel welcome, and your stay a home from home; even down to the small things like fresh flowers on the table when we arrived.
Brenda, the host, was easy to contact with any questions we had and replied quickly.
We would definitely stay here again.
This is a beautiful, well-equipped cottage with plenty of parking. It is on the A54 although our satnav chose to direct us along Church Road, a very narrow country lane which is best avoided. Head for the A54 instead. We were pleasantly surprised (although I may not have read the description properly) to find, in addition to the two ensuite bathrooms, there was also a downstairs toilet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can definitely recommend this property.
I can’t say enough good things about the farm. The rental was gorgeous and impeccably done. The farm was scenic and pleasant. We stepped out in the morning with some coffee and watched the sheep grazing in the field. Most of the animals were out in farther pastures and with the rain we didn’t see too many more, but had it dried up we would have walked the area more.
The owners were friendly and not at all intrusive. We bumped into our hosts one morning and had a long nice conversation about the property and history as well as some new projects he had going on around the farm.
Beautiful property and accommodations. Thanks for a great stay.
The cottage was modern inside comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Brenda the owner was friendly and helpful.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful.

Not as pictured
The picture makes the place look very special. You don’t see the dilapidated barns and broken windows just out of the picture. We also saw no evidence of the advertised “working farm,” other than an unhappy, chained up border collie . This was the first time in a 2week trip, that we were not welcomed by the owner with a sweet treat of homemade cake or cookies. In fact, she wasn’t even there when we finally arrived, having drive. Back and forth on the road for an hour because the veto website didn’t identify the property correctly. Don’t look for swallows barn, you will never find it.

A hidden gem with 5* Hosts
If you are looking for a home from home cottage holiday set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside, we highly recommend Colley Farm Cottages. We were lucky enough to stay in both cottages (the Farmhouse cottage and Swallows barn) each one with its own unique charm, both well equipped, sparkling clean, with everything you need for a long stay (and a good nights sleep in the comfiest beds!)
There are plenty of attractions near by, we enjoyed a walk up Bossly Cloud and a picnic in the walled garden at ‘Hare Hill.’
Brenda and Tom are fantastic hosts and they were a big part of what made our holiday 5* From check-in to check-out they were always just a text or a knock next door away and will go that extra mile for anyone.
We would 100% book again and checking out the guest book of glowing reviews lots of guests return each year.
