  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

We had a great stay! The neighborhood is quiet and calm. The location was easy walking distance or a short drive to the downtown area and other great shopping and eating. I was looking for something close to the zoo and cute bookstores, and this fit the bill! We enjoyed the yard for our pup, tho the fence was a little easy to get under in the backyard, so I wouldn't recommend off leash running if your dog doesn't have good recall. The living space was roomy and well laid out, and we enjoyed the games available!

Pleasant & Convenient Accommodations

We greatly appreciated the ability of bringing our dog with us during our brief stay in Columbus. Nice place to relax and the shaded lot, located in a quiet neighborhood, offers a couple of places to sit outside and enjoy a cup of complimentary coffee on a lazy morning. Very accommodating host - we would definitely enjoy a return visit here.

Great House!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Bungalow Under the Pines!!! Barbera was so accommodating to us with our arrival and departure. The house was clean and nice amenities. The front and back porches were nice places to relax in the AM / PM. Bed was very comfortable and a King! Very close to grocery stores, etc. maybe 10-15 ride to Ohio State campus. Nice quiet neighborhood.

Cozy and convenient

This small place had anything we needed, including coffee. The furniture was very comfortable. The shower pressure was great, and there was even shampoo and body wash. Checking in and communicating was easy. The location is convenient. Close enough to downtown Columbus (about 20 minutes) and far enough away to be quiet.
