"We stayed in a superior room with lake view and was amazed on how beautiful the room and view were. We were very fortunate to have a room with veranda where we sat and just enjoyed the peace of our surroundings and the stunning lake.
Breakfast was very nice as always and plenty to choose from. We didn't use to pool or spa as we were happy enjoying the sunshine and our veranda. Close to Chepstow Town centre. Friendly staff and easy check in."
"We stayed one night in the deluxe suite. The suite was lovely, very spacious but I noticed some things that let it down which I wouldn’t have expected from the Celtic Manor brand such as, stain on the sofa in the living room, marks on the paint work, two lamps were not working in the living room. The bed was nice but it wasn’t a super king, it was two beds together so there was an uncomfortable ridge down the middle. There was no complimentary water in the room, only chargeable! Also, no blinds in the suite which meant as the windows were floor length, anyone outside can see straight in!
The facilities were ok, the gym had the heating on in 30 degree heat which was ridiculous! The pool was very small with dirty grouting and the windows looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned in ages!
The breakfast selection was ok, but the sausages, bacon, potatoes were so dry I couldn’t eat them.
Overall, I think the property is slightly tired and needs some tlc… and I must say, I was astounded that were were charged for parking when it was in their property… all in all 6/10."
"We chose this hotel because the May bank holiday was forecast to be very hot and we specifically wanted somewhere with an outdoor pool. Expedia advertised this hotel as having one, so we booked and drove over 3 hours — only to find out the hotel doesn’t actually have an outdoor pool. Extremely disappointing.
Things got worse when we discovered the AC in our room wasn’t working in 30-degree heat. A helpful receptionist with long black hair quickly fixed it and explained that whenever the key card is removed, the AC switches off and can only be reset by reception.
The next day, after returning from Cheltenham at 2pm, we asked reception to reset the AC again. The short-haired receptionist rudely told us to wait behind a queue of check-ins, despite the reset taking only seconds. An hour later my wife was told it would be sorted, but 3 hours later the AC was still off. I had to go down again and insist it was reset, only to be snapped at that she was busy and working alone.
Even another guest commented on how rude this was. Regardless of staffing issues, paying guests should not wait 3 hours for a simple fix or be spoken to so dismissively.
I raised the issues with Adrian at checkout, but although polite, he showed little interest in resolving the complaint.
Overall, a very disappointing stay with misleading advertising and poor customer service."
"The staff were excellent, very helpful.
Food let the hotel down. Breakfast buffet ok… had dinner in one of the restaurants which was 5/10 . Hotel dated and a little tatty in places"
"The staff and services are attentive and very helpful. Happy stays during the bank holiday, enjoyable gym and facilities. Definitely will stay again when visiting Bristol."
"Stayed at the Celtic Manor Resort recently and came away feeling a little disappointed overall. The bed was genuinely excellent and most of the staff we dealt with were friendly and polite, but for a hotel marketed as five-star, parts of the experience didn’t really match the price point.
On arrival, the concierge/car parking experience felt unnecessarily dismissive, which isn’t the welcome you expect when paying premium prices. The hotel itself also feels quite dated in areas.
The room was comfortable, but surprisingly lacked basic touches you’d normally expect at this level — no bottled water, no minibar. After arriving late, we also found the night menu extremely limited, to the point we didn’t bother ordering food.
The bar service was fine, but automatically adding a 10% discretionary service charge onto drinks left a slightly sour taste, especially when four pints came to around £36.
Overall, not a terrible stay by any means, but it didn’t feel like a true five star experience for the money charged."
