"We stayed in the room called 'The General' - A gorgeous room in the main building with a lovely four poster bed and a balcony. The room was great, it could just do with a little TLC on a few parts (Very minor). Great staff, lovely pub and wonderful food and drink."

"The hotel is an old Georgian building and therefore reflected in the rooms and amenities. Lots of character and charm. However, this means no aircon and old fashioned door locks etc. They provide a fan but our room was still too warm. We stayed in April so the summer months could be tricky. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room was well stocked. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and lovely fluffy towels. Lots of tea and coffee. Coffee was high quality bags and not the nasty Nescafé granules you usually get. Lovely biscuits too. For breakfast I had a chocolate croissant which was great followed by a full English. Unfortunately this was a bit disappointing. Sausage tasted cheap and the bacon was streaky and not back which was quite tough. No black pudding and only one hash brown. Toast was described as whole meal but was just plain brown. We had lunch sat outside in the sun which was very nice. I can recommend the fish finger sandwich. Beer is excellent and the staff were super helpful and working incredibly hard."

"Upon check in, I was taken to my room and advised the property wasn’t manned at night but there was an emergency number that I could call if needed. The problem with this was there is no mobile data or phone signal due to the location and the WiFi provided was from an unsecured network. I was a single female staying on business and only able to make calls on WhatsApp, not much else. The room was pleasant although very little room either side of the bed. My room was located at the entrance to the car park so very noisy from traffic passing through. They did supply ear plugs to help with this issue. There was no hot water for a shower in the morning and was forced to take a cold shower. The bathroom was a wet room which once used was not practical to use again without shoes on due to stepping on the wet floor. The heating is an oil filled radiator and took a long time to heat the room. My evening meal was good although the classic English breakfast was rather disappointing. I did complain about the lack of hot water and the member of staff confirmed other residents had also had the same. All I received was an apology and that she would tell housekeeping - no offer of a discount. To add insult to injury they had added a service charge to the evening meal which I asked to be removed and was told she couldn’t because it had already been charged. I persisted with this and she reluctantly took it off the bill. Unfortunately I won’t be returning to this establishment in the future."

"The room needed a deep clean - this is an old property so it’s always going to be a challenge to keep things looking at their best, but there were areas that looked as if they hadn’t been touched in months (towel rail, tiles, pictures etc). The staff at check in were great, but I was a bit concerned (as a woman travelling on my own) that a side door at the bottom of the stairs would always be kept open, but after they all gone home, everywhere else is locked. I got the impression that there were no staff in the pub overnight. Dinner was a reasonable price (2 courses for £20) but the burger bun had been microwaved so was inedible. Breakfast was absolutely delicious though - I had eggs royale with lovely smoked salmon and perfectly poached eggs. All in all, an OK stay with a great breakfast."
