"You get what you pay for. Our room was priced for a tight budget.
The location of this hotel is prime. It’s 20 minutes away from Frankenmuth, 25 minutes away from Midland, and 25 minutes away from Bay City. That’s premium for someone who likes to explore Michigan.
The hotel has great history, and I’m always fascinated with history. It was originally a motel and then it was enclosed to be a hotel. It has 100 rooms.
The staff was exceptional and friendly, especially Bri! She went out of her way to help us and was great with following up. I do think that it would be more professional if the staff had uniforms. it could even be a simple golf shirt with a hotel logo.
This hotel has great potential, but it does need some serious help. You can tell that this place was happening back in the day when it first opened. There is beautiful, detailed woodwork throughout the whole hotel. This is not cheap wood. It’s high-quality stuff, and is gorgeous. I was most impressed with how clean all of it was. I’m pretty picky about cleanliness. With all the ridges on the wood, that is a lot to keep up with. The staff is doing an excellent job with it. Pictures, light fixtures, and vents all looked nice and clean.
However, the hotel is outdated and in some desperate need of repair. The tub was cracked and leaking, the carpet is old and gross, and wallpaper is peeling or paint is cracking.
The outside where GPS took us looked abandoned. I’d write more, but am out of characters to type."
"Rarely does one feel they have been welcomed as if they had "come home" to a hotel or Bed & Breakfast. I have stayed in a few grander historic hotels, but never felt so at home as when my son and I stayed a few mights at The Montague Inn. It is a lovely, beautifully maintained mansion from the 1930s, almost immaculately clean, with charming and comfortable guest rooms, sitting areas, patios and gardens. My bed was especially comfortable. Yes, the hot breakfast is home-cooked and delicious. The difference is that the staff all seem to consider this to be their home, too. There is obvious pride in everyone's work, and it shows. At the same time, everyone we met was genuinely warm, unpretentious, and so gracious and kind. If ever in Saginaw again, there is no question where I will stay. "
