There is a small bay with rocky outcrops within 300 yards from the property. The wide expanse of golden sandy beach, Beadnell Bay, is less than a mile away. This is a popular destination for watersport enthusiasts, with activities including sailing, sea kayaking, windsurfing and scuba diving. Beadnell Bay can truly be described as the jewel in Northumberland’s seaside crown; idyllic for a romantic barefoot stroll in the sand to listen to the waves lap against the shoreline and inhale the invigorating sea air.
One mile up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands – famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony – depart regularly from its harbour. Here there are several charming tea rooms, quaint pubs and shops with horse riding, fishing and golf on the links close by. A further 3 miles up the coastline is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic fortress and commands the power and presence of the seasoned television set it regularly becomes.
Just a few miles inland is the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its own dramatic castle (and film location for ‘Harry Potter’s’ Hogwarts Academy). Visitors will also enjoy a trip to Alnwick Garden – a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden including the Grande Cascade Waterfall and restaurant, which is set within the largest tree house in Europe! Beach 300 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

The peeling paint on the porch set a negative tone straight away. The property is a small first-time buyer home that has been furnished relatively cheaply. Both the sofa and the general furniture felt low to mid quality, and there was a lack of storage space , particularly in the kitchen. The cooker control knobs have faded so the settings are invisible, and the shower had a poor flow force. Another quirk was the kitchen sink, which gurgles loudly unless you keep the plug permanently pressed in. Also , the TV in the main bedroom is useless—it’s tiny and positioned right next to the headboard, making it impossible to watch. There were a few highlights. We arrived to a welcome pack containing coffee pods, crisps, and chocolate, which was a kind gesture. The washer-dryer was excellent. The standout feature is definitely the decking area; it overlooks the lake ( there are fish in there so bring your rod and you can fish from the balcony ) and offers a soothing view that provided much-needed relaxation away from the issues inside the house.Despite the great decking and the welcome snacks, the combination of furnishings and maintenance means I won’t be returning. It needs investment to be a great holiday rental and for the price I paid I expect a higher standard. I’d put this home at no more than 100 a night value in March.
This house is well situated for enjoying the stunning Northumberland Coastline
The House itself has everything you need and is very comfortable
A lot of thought has clearly gone into ensuring that guests have everything they need
The booking was initially a concern to me as although I had tried to pay, I kept being told there was an error. This was with VRBO and I couldn’t get hold of anyone, I thought we had lost the booking because it then became unavailable but after a few days I had an e mail from Cottages.com to say there had been a problem and to ring them, which I did, and they took payment over the phone. They told me this was an issue because the booking wasn’t initially with them. About a week before we went, I realised we hadn’t had any confirmation of the payment or booking and had to ring through to ask for it. Shortly after this, we also had communication from the owners and from that point communication was really good but I would say the initial process is stressful, nothing to say you are booking effectively through a fourth party!
