"The hotel is basic, but clean and good for one night. Air conditioning was functioning perfectly. Breakfast needs at least 1 gluten free option and the staff need training on gluten free requirements. The main issue with our stay was the swimming pool. Nowhere on the listing did it say the pool is open to the public. This meant the pool was extremely busy and it was impossible to find a sun lounger or even a space to sit."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Castaras?
The best area to stay in Castaras is within the village itself, particularly around the central Plaza de la Iglesia.

This area is the heart of Castaras, offering a traditional Andalusian village experience. You'll find whitewashed houses, narrow, winding streets, and stunning views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains. The Plaza de la Iglesia is where the village church is located and often hosts local gatherings. It's a peaceful spot, great for those looking to relax and enjoy the local way of life.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. The small, locally-run guesthouses and apartments offer a personal touch, and the quiet streets are great for leisurely strolls. You're also well-placed to explore the nearby hiking trails and enjoy the natural beauty of the Alpujarras region.

For solo travellers seeking a peaceful retreat, staying within Castaras village provides a gentle pace of life. You can easily connect with local culture, enjoy the scenic walks, and find quiet spots to read or simply take in the mountain views.
When is the best time to go to Castaras?
The best time to visit Castaras is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm days and cool evenings, ideal for exploring the surrounding Alpujarra region. You'll avoid the intense heat of the summer and the cooler, sometimes wet, winter months. This is great for those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the white villages.

Travellers looking for a relaxed, authentic experience will appreciate the quieter atmosphere during these shoulder seasons.
