Kevin’s birthday

I surprised my husband with a trip to the canyon. I rented the Tiny cabin but the pipes froze so we were upgraded to Longhorn which was AMAZING-so much so that we stayed an extra night! We will return!

Love this property. The Roadrunner cabin is small, but just fine for a couple and there’s an upper bunk if you have a child or 3rd person. There is an outdoor area with picnic table and grill. Very close to the beautiful Palo Duro State Park, and the Sad Monkey mercantile about a 1/4 mile away has beer, wine, groceries some good sandwiches, pizza, and a food truck outside with more options like burgers. Great communication with the host, easy check in.

Easy access to park

Everything was clean and tidy. Parking was good. Liked the keypad to get in the door. Was a little concerned that cabin was so close to the road but honestly didn’t hear any traffic noise. Was surprised how much equipment was packed away in the kitchenette. Having the coffee provided for the coffee maker was a nice amenity. 2 minor criticisms: the blind on the door was broken at the bottom so didn’t cover the window-given the size of the cabin sort of compromised privacy; and again for the size of the cabin, 2 TVs seemed like overkill and the one mounted on the bunk bed was sort of in the way. The cabin is located just 1.5.miles from the entrance to the park which made access super quick and easy.

We booked the place for two nights, as an option since it's the only way my husband and son can convince me to go camping. My own place to get cleaned up (I am not a big fan of communal shower). The place was perfect for us, clean and cozy. Just outside of the park. And it's perfect in case it gets too cold in the night. All planned well. We would have loved to stay there on our second night. The wind was just crazy. There was dangerous high winds warning (gusts up to 70 mph). We were down in the canyons and the tent wouldn't hold up. It's even more dangerous to drive up, so we ended up camping in the car. But all is well and we were safe. It was an adventure.

I would definitely stay at a cabin here again the next time I come to Palo Duro. The Roadrunner cabin was the exact size and amenities we needed for a short weekend stay. It was clean and quiet. Easy check-in. Great location next to the State Park. Adorable property.

Plumbing

I ALWAYS expect and practice water conservation in West Texas. Its just part of being in the area. My only complaint, and a rather gross one, was the shower in the roadrunner cabin not draining. Even with just barely turning the water on and turning the water off when lathering, only turning water on to rinse, i was left standing in ankle deep dirty water. Its very gross. Otherwise, this was a fantastic visit. I just dont know if I'd recommend this cabin because of the shower conditions.

Roadrunner

Nice quaint cabin for an overnight stay. Must have a timer on A/C as only on for 10 seconds and then off. Could get stuffy. Bathroom sliding door was terrible. Overall it was a fun place to try once. Outside area was nice and rest of property was well kept up. Great parking and easy access.Would do it again.
