  • Let me preface these discoveries by saying that I ended up in Calella haphazardly. It is not necessarily a town that I would generally recommend. It is not your traditional Spanish/Catalan dream destination. It very much looks like something the 70's spit out and no one ever bothered to clean up. With that said, I freaking love this little freakish town, which I quickly & affectionately nicknamed "The Twilight Zone." The strangest occurrences happened throughout the month, yes MONTH, I lived in Calella. Apparently since the 70's, Calella, was a booming tourist destination for Western Europeans and the British. It has been on a massive decline over the past decade. What's left behind though are some fun Dutch and English/Irish pubs, a small welcoming expat community, and one of the most incredible beaches you will ever lay your eyes on. Beautiful clean white sand for miles and crystal clear turquoise water. Parties & bars on the beach, some free concerts in the summer time and of course drinking it allowed as well. If you happen to find yourself here, you must stop in at Beach Boys Club, tell the owners, Brian & Cathy, that Amber sent you. Then hit up Brian for his secret stash of American imported Budweiser (Did you know the bottled stuff is always produced in country? Brian believes the secrets in the water, so he gets the cans from the US. Brian is British, which makes this little story even better.) Also, be prepared to eat a lot of rotisserie chicken.

A great place to stay in Calella.

Four day trip to Calella. Hotel handy for the town and beach. Lovely frontal room with a sea view. Food basic but satisfactory. Excellent value. Recommended.

The hotel was lovely but our room was a little cramped, the bed ended about 6 inches from the wall. Otherwise it was well kept, staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good too

Recommended in Calella.

I had an excellent beach front facing room with balcony. Room was somewhat tired and dated, particularly the bathroom. Food was tasty enough, although it was basic with limited choice. The location was great for the beach and the town centre. Staff were very friendly. This is a very affordable hotel and we had an enjoyable stay. I recommend it highly if you are on a budget

I was somewhat apprehensive, even though the reviews were positive. I can now add my own positivities as great! “No frills or spills” but just right. So close to all amenities, but most importantly the beach. Am already looking at dates to return.

A fair review

Lovely staff, the food at buffet was not warm enough in general although generally a decent varied choice was on offer. Drinks in restaurant were fairly priced. Poor quality / poorly fitted blinds in junior suite meant far too much light entered room early in the morning. Black out blinds would be a better solution. The bed was not very comfortable. Location was excellent. The junior suite patio was fantastic. Aircon in room helped keep us cool. Was a decent break all in all, probably wouldnt return due to poor sleep quality caused by poor bed and blinds.

We booked a room with a balcony and lovely sea view, but we could not sit on the balcony because when opened the balcony door, insects would immediately enter the room. We went inside and shut the balcony doors, but later we saw that there were hundreds of small insects on the ceiling. It was late, but the staff gave us a new room. In the new room, there were also insects, but not as many. We asked to change rooms again, but nothing was available. The staff handed us a can of insect repellent, telling us we could spray the room. At check-out we expressed our dissatisfaction. The receptionist was rude and never apologized . He told us to call Expedia if we had a complaint. We won´t return to this hotel.

Top hotel

My third time back at this great little Hotel right on the beach in Calella… A little unlucky with the amount of school kids on organised trips this time around but this hotel is a little gem for the price clean very friendly staff and a great location for the beach and local night life…
