I arrived early morning for check in but the room was not available until 1 pm. They took good care of me, welcomed me with breakfast and allowed me to leave my luggage while I went out. When I arrived the room was not still available and since I was extremely exhausted they arranged me to go to another hotel (Capital Hotel) part of their properties and they were very nice and welcoming too. Thank you for going the extra mile and taking care of me the last day of my amazing vacation in Egypt

Really good hotel for the price. Is in the center of downtown. The staff is awesome people. They make you feel like family. The outside is not much to look at but considering the price you pay, you get more for your money. Not only do they provide breakfast but as a courtesy they cooked dinner for my boyfriend and I our last night there. BEBO was a wonderful host.

The hotel was so unexpected! We didn't even get the room we booked online, it didn't exist! Some of the staff were nice and welcoming, but the hotel is so old and dirty, everything was falling apart, the closets, the ceiling, the bathroom, even the windows were firmly closed except the one in the bathroom, where we could see the terrible view of garbage underneath us in the void between the two blocks. They even hung the washed towels over the window facing the garbage. The internet was terrible and there was no signal for our phones, the staff took 3 days to change a lightbulb so we had to open our flashlights to see (night and day).

No towel racks, No TP refills, No Hangers
We booked our hotel online for the Hotel Royal, but when our airport transfer picked us up from Cairo International, he told us that the owners just opened a new hotel, Capital Hotel and that our room had been changed to the new hotel (very close to the old). No problem, but we booked a suite and were only given a standard room. The hotel staff was nice, however. Onto the bad: There are no towel racks in the room. You are given only bath towels, we had to ask for an additional towel for the bathroom. You cannot hang your towel anywhere to dry (again, no towel racks). Internet only worked ~75% of the time Toilet would flush and then make loud, screeching noises for about 2 minutes. We "saved flushes" whenever appropriate. The hotel is not on Google Maps, so good luck with your Uber request or trying to find your way around. Luckily, it has a red & white awning that is quite distinctive, so you can usually find your way back, but nobody knows the hotel exists. Had to extend 1 night and the price changed from $20 to $30 per night. Sucks.

In a good location but nothing else is great
We stayed here only for a day so it was not that big problem but it was a bit disappointing. It is great to walk to different places in downtown but the hotel itself is in a deserted alley where cars can't go. The view from the balcony was of the same deserted alley and nothing to write home about. Towels and linen were damp and the bathroom door wouldn't close. The staff though was helpful and they did what they could given the circumstances.

No facilities provided as mention on internet.
Very bad experience. No transportation provided as promised. We were Forced to use public transport from airport to hotel and hotel to airport. An additional money were asked for devices. In breakfast we have to buy our own eggs. We stayed 4 days but room was never cleans neither bad sheet or trowel changed. We need to get our ow toilet tissue from facilities. We left with no choice but to stay once full payments were done. Internet service was very bad, there was weak coverage in side the room, to use WiFi we need to sit out side the room in lobby. It was not advisable for our females. You need to investigate before listing such type of hotels, its not a low rate, its about not fulfilling commitment as mention online booking such as: WiFi, decent breakfast or shetter sevice. It was noticed that other people were disappointed due to the same. It will damage Expedia image and trust. I am sure you will do the needful. Thank you for asking.

Wasn't sure at first but then really settled in. The hotel is located in a pretty good location for shopping or site seeing trips. Sitting back a bit from the main streets made this a much quieter location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You will never feel more welcome anywhere. Met some very nice fellow travellers and enjoyed sitting around in the morning sharing information about home life, other countries travelled or just the days plans. We had a wonderful Utime and will miss the staff and friendly travellers we met each day forward

Good location
The hotel is in a good downtown location. The rooms are clean and hotel staff very friendly. Breakfast could do with improving, it's very basic. The biggest problem with the hotel is noise. Half of the rooms are entered directly of the reception area, the noise from the hotel night staff is a problem.

Good Effort but Fell Incredibly Short
My boyfriend and I spent some time in Egypt and decided to stay at Hotel Royal in downtown. We opted to stay somewhere a bit cheaper as we'd plan on doing so many activities outside the hotel. Basically, you get what you pay for. Firstly, the beds are uncomfortable with springs stabbing you in your back but hopefully you will do enough activities, you'll be so exhausted, you'll sleep through the discomfort. There's no fitted sheet, just a low quality top sheet over the mattress that moved around the entire night annoyingly and a comforter. There also isn't a window, just shutters with a locking door so be prepared for the mosquitos. More importantly, the entrance isn't well secure or managed. The front door is always open which leads to the staircase to the individual rooms. Three seperate occassions I had a vendor follow me into the hotel trying to sale merchandise, which isn't safe at all. Theres no cafe or restaurant. The staff were kind and helpful to an extent. They make arrangements for tours but failed to provide us with an itinerary despite us asking numerous times or notify us of the additional fees for the types, which total roughly $200/pp. The last couple days we decided to take the Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor. We were charged a fee and despite our intakes, never received an itinerary or any kind of info. We didn't know the name of the boat, company for our tour guides, what time and where the tours where going on what day. Pay the extra money for elsewhere.

Awesome staff
I had a rough time in Cairo because I lost my papers and was stuck there for several days. I was lucky to have stayed in this hotel though. The staff were so kind and helpful. Said, the hotel owner, himself took me to the airport and helped me with the paperwork I had to go through, and Sam, the tour guide, even lent me cash when I was penniless, took me shopping, etc. I remember them fondly. Everyone was super nice and the breakfast was solid. Location-wise it's also great, right in the middle of downtown Cairo, and very affordable. It's the ideal place if you're on a budget, want to be in the heart of Cairo, and want to meet nice and friendly Egyptian folks.

Disgusting rooms
This was poor a condition hotel . No room service for three nights. Dirty beds with hair, dirty towels , no chairs , missing light bulb In bathroom. The restroom was built in the bedroom by glass partion. Staff was nice, but did not really care for the nasty rooms. I really wanted to check out but would of been very pricey to find another hotel on the spot. I don't recommend it for a vacation at all.

I only have good things to say, while of course the facilities could be better (that would mean a price increase) you totally get A+ comfort when you match it with the price you're paying. Also, the staff is great. Don't hesitate to ask them for directions or to let you know the best places to eat koshari and egyptian food. Their driver Sam is also an amazing guy!

Dirty, not safe, not what we expected
This hotel was recommended as a boutique hotel in our travel book and had some good reviews online, but I cannot see why. After booking six weeks in advance, the room I booked was not available and had to settle for a smaller room the first night. The manager said the next night my room would be available, but on the next day another guest extended his stay and I was put into an even worse room. This is not the way to run a hotel, and after discussing with the manager I seemed to get the impression I was being treated this way because I didn't book directly through the hotel. Both rooms I saw were dirty with "makeshift" bathrooms. If you absolutely have to stay here, bring slippers so you don't have to walk on the floor with your bare feet. My second room didn't have a shower, but only a shower head. You'd have to stand over the toilet to shower. The rooms I got were just a bed and closet. Definitely overpriced. The worst part was that there were no locked doors to get into the hotel, and the reception wasn't positioned well to monitor who was coming in off the street. I had to struggle to close the door to the room, and once locked it felt like if I pulled it just a little too hard I would break the lock. It did not feel safe. The room was very noisy from the street, other guests coming and going, and I was woken up by an outdoor market that formed outside in the early morning.

Ok but needs to improve a lot.
The hotel could be a lot better,it certainly does not live up to the photographs in the website. With care and attention the owners could bring this up a lot with minimal effort, clean and attention to maintainenance and fix up everything properly. Negatives -The room we had is full of cockroaches (you would see about 20 per day, small to medium variety). -Replace the yellow pillows, sheets look very old as well. -Cigarrette smoke wofts from the reception area from the staff to your room, underneath the doorway. Positives-central location and quiet neighborhood. -safe area, long reception hours. -Large rooms, high ceilings .

Nice place, good deal!
Hotel Royal is a clean and comfortable place in the heart of downtown Cairo. It's close to all the major sights and places of interest. The staff at the hotel are super friendly and go out of their way to accommodate all the needs of the guests. They are on call 24/7. On my first day I had trouble with the shower. Upon being informed Said, the manager, arranged to have my room changed. I got a bigger and better room. The reception area has a relaxed and communal atmosphere. I made most of my friends in Egypt by hanging around there. I was traveling alone in Egypt. Said helped me plan my itinerary for Aswan, Luxor and Hurghada. He also introduced me to his friend, Mido, a diving master when he learnt I wanted to go diving. I went back to stay at Hotel Royal when I got back from Hurghada. My trip in Egypt would have been very different if I hadn't booked this hotel. I'm glad I did. Definitely will stay with them when I'm back in Cairo. And it's a great deal for the price!

Ok hotel
Generally a nice hotel with a great location. For a first 2 nights of my stay I got a room which was not as in the official hotel pictures. Toilet and showering area were also really small and there was some water damage in the room floor close to the toilet. However, I was able to switch the room for a bigger and fancier one with a nice balcony: this room fulfilled my expectations for the hotel. Breakfast was simple but ok. My opinion is that the hotel is a bit overpriced, for such a price it should be able to find a better hotel in so cheap city as Cairo. However, it's a comfortable and clean, and location is indeed very good.

Nice hotel in the city
The free transfer from airport to hotel on arrival did not materialised bcos the driver was stuck in the traffic jam. So ensure to store the hotel telephone number in your handphone to make other arrangements. Otherwise you will be kept waiting. The Check-In and Check-Out process is super fast and hassle free. The rooms and amenities are average but I guess at the rates they're offering (super cheap) it is very reasonable. The longer you stayed here you will feel like being one of the family as all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The Tour agency they engaged are also punctual and reliable. I enjoyed every single tour. Bcos it is a small hotel the reception area is just outside the rooms. You are likely to meet other guests checking in or out. This is where you meet interesting people just like what happened to me. The Hotel Manager Mr Said Kamal is such a wonderful man. Always available for help and advise. You could spend all night talking to him or even play chess.

I had great time at Hotel Royal. The location is great. You can walk to major places of interest such as Tahrir square,Nile, the Egyptian museum...The rooms are cleaned every day.Hot water and AC are in great working condition. The staff is very professional.Everybody seems to know what hospitality business is about. They were all helpful. The manager Said made me feel at home. Thanks Said for all your help and advice about getting around and visiting the places of interest in Cairo and Alexandria. At the beginning I felt a TV set was missing in my room but I must say I really didn't miss watching TV because I had good time talking to guests from different nationalities, the receptionist Ahmed and the manager Said.In additon as soon as you step out of the hotel, you have plenty of cafes on both sides where I enjoyed a shisha and a cup of tea every night while watching TV or listening to Arabic music.
