"Our room was very beautiful with a lovely view. The service was excellent. We had a great dinner at Charlie’s the first night and our server, Euan, was really great. The complimentary breakfast was appreciated. My husband forgot some important papers on the desk in our room, today, after checking out, and we are having problems connecting with the staff there. Nobody is answering the phone or returning our calls."

Le Petit Chateau & William de Percy

8/10 Good
"Excellent stay when here for an evening wedding party. Booked a meal ( only had 1 course) for before party, which was excellent, very good service too. Drink prices quite high, but I suppose should be expected as is a wedding venue. Breakfast was nice, but had to ask for extra coffee( for 4) twice before getting. Also had to ask for toast as not offered when taking food orders. Poor selection of fruit available and no Greek yogurt even though on menu. For breakfast servings, May I suggest that you offer filtered coffee instead of that from a commercial coffee machine, which would save time . Would certainly stay again should another wedding invitation, for the venue, be received."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Byrness?
The best area to stay in Byrness is within the village itself, particularly along the A68, as this is where most of the accommodation and services are located.Byrness is a small, quiet village located in the Northumberland National Park, primarily serving as a key stop for walkers on the Pennine Way. The main road, the A68, runs directly through the village, and most guesthouses and amenities are easily accessible from it. You'll find a few places to eat and drink, and the village is surrounded by extensive moorland and forests. For walkers, staying directly in Byrness is ideal. It's perfectly positioned for those tackling the northern sections of the Pennine Way, offering a convenient stopover with facilities after a long day on the trail. The proximity to the Cheviot Hills also makes it a great base for exploring the wider national park.Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate Byrness for its tranquil setting and access to nature. It's a wonderful spot for enjoying scenic walks, stargazing in the dark sky park, and simply unwinding away from the hustle and bustle.
When is the best time to go to Byrness?
The best time to visit Byrness is generally during the late spring, summer, and early autumn months, from May to October. These months offer the most agreeable weather for enjoying the outdoors, which is the main draw of Byrness. You'll find longer daylight hours and milder temperatures, making hiking and exploring the surrounding Northumberland National Park much more pleasant. The trails, including sections of the Pennine Way, are typically drier and more accessible during this period. For those keen on long-distance walking or cycling, June, July, and August provide the warmest conditions. This is ideal for tackling challenging routes or spending full days in the fells without the concern of colder weather. If you prefer slightly quieter trails and don't mind cooler temperatures, May and September are excellent choices. The landscape is still beautiful, and you might experience fewer fellow travellers on popular routes.
