  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Small hotel with a personal touch. Breakfast was lovely and hospitality brilliant. Steps to suite not for anyone with walking difficulties or poor eyesight ( lift only stops one floor above). Would have been a five star review had it not been for the really bad smell in our bathroom that we reported on arrival but remained the same throughout our stay.

Perfect stay

This hotel is everything you would need and more. Beautiful decor, attentive and friendly staff and perfect location. The breakfast was amazing, the rooms are clean and pretty. We loved our stay, and would definitely stay here again. Would recommend to anyone coming to Bruges.

The staff at the hotel were superb! The breakfast is not to be missed. This hotel is so charming we are already planning another visit. Many shops and restaurants nearby and very centrally located. Just go!

We stayed in the room with the terrace and it was like staying in a castle. This is a beautiful hotel with all the fine touches that make it an amazing experience. The staff is very accommodating and friendly making us feel very welcome. I highly recommend staying here as it is a wonderful experience to remember.

I had a great stay at this hotel! The service at the restaurant and the front desk was outstanding – everyone was friendly, helpful, and made me feel very welcome. The hotel is very well located, and for the price, it’s an excellent choice. I arrived by car and had reserved one of the hotel’s parking spots in advance, which worked perfectly. Overall, a very good experience, and I would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Location and Exceptionally Helpful Staff

The hotel's location is excellent. The staff at the reception were very helpful — they stored our luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which allowed us to explore the city comfortably and make the most of our day. The rooms have a charming vintage style and are very enjoyable.
