  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. We had such a lovely 2 night stay at hotel Adornes. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great. The location was perfect walking distance from everything we wanted to see in our short trip. We would definitely recommend and we will be returning.

The little gem of Brugge

Found an absolute gem of a hotel. Location is perfect and quiet beautiful. Easy walk to main square Hotel is quaint and packed with character, if you want chain levels of decor find somewhere else. everything you needs for a stay, lift to floors, parking for; motorbikes. Daily cleaning,. Breakfast great, continental buffet style. Staff are so friendly and helpful.

Lovely family run hotel in quieter part of Bruges. Comfortable room and delicious breakfasts. Good dining recommendations from host in local cafés and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Small hotel in great location.

Very nice small hotel in a great location. Staff were excellent and the continental breakfast was good. The room was very warm but you could adjust the radiator and open windows. We would definitely stay again

Hotel Adornes is the perfect place to stay in Bruges. It is a very nice boutique hotel, on a canal, close to the market place. Breakfast is delicious and the host and owner, Giles, is very gracious. The rates are reasonable. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and we highly recommend it.

We loved the view of the canals from our room. The building was beautifully old but well maintained and very clean and comfortable. Everyone was helpful and kind especially with my panic over the purchase of train tickets.

We stayed in a canal view room which was picturesque. It was a short walk to the center or windmills (though Bruges in general was extremely walkable). Loved that you could borrow a bike to travel around Bruges.

The hotel was in a picturesque location and a short scenic walk from the centre of Bruges. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Although ear buds were required to get a good sleep, this was expected given the age of the building and central location.

Pros - - Great location a pretty 5 to 10 min stroll through the old town to the centre. - Lovely breakfast with fresh, high quality breads, pastries, etc., granolas, fruit, cheeses, etc etc etc - Warm rooms, comfy beds - Clean Cons - Nothing much. It's a simple hotel, not flashy or big, if you were looking for that.

A simply fantatic place to stay.

We had a fabulous trip to Bruges, staying at the Hotel Adornes. This is a very nice, comfortable hotel, a lovely old building with lots of historical character, next to a scenic canal. It is also very well located with easy (walking) access to the centre of the beatiful old city of Bruges. Of particular note for us was the superb & friendly service from the manager/receptionist, 'Sabine' who simply could not have been more helpful, friendly & welcoming. We found it a simply fantatic place to stay.

The Hotel Adornes is in a perfect position, just far enough away from the busy center, and near enough (5 min walk) to get there. Natalie and her colleagues could not of been more pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was ample and good value. We had 2 ground floor rooms which were very clean and comfortable. All in all a great place to stay.

This property is fantastic, it is ideally located for walking into the centre of Bruges. The staff were welcoming on our arrival. They allowed me to park my motorbike in the rear yard which was extremely secure. The room was extremely comfortable and had coffee/tea making facilities, with a very good supply of toiletries. The bed was very comfortable too. The breakfast was superb. This hotel is superb value and we highly recommend it and will be returning.

A solid choice

Perfect location overlooking the canal, and a short walk into the centre. Bikes available to borrow, and the breakfast pastries in the lobby was a lovely touch so they didn't go to waste. Friendly and helpful staff. Only downsides for us were the lack of air conditioning and the difficulty showering as the over-bath shower had no hook!

Beautiful friendly hotel in a stunning location

Lovely hotel on the canal. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We parked at the free park and ride near the police station then walked the mile to the hotel, we could have dropped our luggage off then parked the car but it was a little difficult to navigate with Google maps around the small paved roads. The hotel was beautiful, the scenery stunning and the free use of bikes was a lovely extra perk! We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
