The best area to stay in Borgwedel is directly along the banks of the Schlei fjord, particularly around the main village area.

This central part of Borgwedel offers direct access to the water, with many properties boasting views of the fjord and its sailing activity. It's a relatively small, spread-out village, so staying close to the water means you're near any local amenities like restaurants or small shops. The area is characterised by its peaceful, natural setting and opportunities for water-based activities.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the waterfront area particularly appealing. You can enjoy strolls along the shore, relax with fjord views from your accommodation, or take advantage of boat rentals for exploring the Schlei. It's an ideal base for unwinding and connecting with nature.

Families will also appreciate staying by the fjord. The access to the water provides opportunities for paddling, swimming, or simply watching the boats go by.

The best time to go to Borgwedel is between May and September when the weather is mild and pleasant.

During these months, the average temperatures range from 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F), making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty of the area. The days are longer, allowing for more time to enjoy the Schlei Fjord and surrounding countryside.

Families will find this period particularly enjoyable, as the warmer weather is superb for swimming, sailing, and cycling along the fjord. Many local attractions, such as the Viking Museum Haithabu and Gottorf Castle, also extend their opening hours during the summer, offering more opportunities for activities.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, late spring and early autumn (May, June, and September) offer a more tranquil experience with fewer crowds.
