Get your ticket for a night at Ireland’s largest theater, which was built to attract the world’s biggest shows to the nation’s capital.

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre is among Dublin’s most recognizable landmarks, with its ultramodern glass façade and jagged edges. In contrast to its futuristic exterior, many of the shows inside the theater tend to be of a more classical nature. Attend performances of iconic titles such as Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Lord of the Dance.

Arrive at the theater at night to see it illuminated in flashy lights. Note the red poles and slanted glass levels that give the structure its modern feel. Relax in the majestic waiting room before the performance. The theater has 2,111 seats and state-of-the-art acoustic and technical systems. Enjoy the comfortable seats with generous leg room.

Shows vary from comedy and family-themed productions to ballet and opera. Appreciate the superb acoustics, as sound reverberates around the auditorium. Purchase drinks from the bars during breaks. Buy souvenirs and memorabilia from the shops inside the theater complex.

Learn about the brief history of the theater, which first opened its doors in 2010, after being designed by acclaimed architects from New York and London. The debut performance was of Swan Lake. The construction of the theater meant that Dubliners no longer had to travel as far as London to see some of the world’s most acclaimed shows.

Purchase tickets from the box office at the theater. It is open from Monday to Friday between morning and early evening and also opens 1 hour before a show. Prices vary depending on the show, with discounts available for children, students and seniors.

Look for the theater in the southeastern part of central Dublin. It is a 1.1-mile (1.8-kilometer) journey from the city center, which takes less than 20 minutes by bus. Drive across the River Liffey to the theater on the Grand Canal in 10 minutes. Reserve a parking space in advance at the underground lot beneath the theater.

Stroll along the banks of the River Liffey and the Grand Canal. You’ll find a lively atmosphere in the Grand Canal Dock neighborhood.
