About this property
Breathtaking View of Grandfather Mountain-Boone/ASU/Blowing Rock/Hound Ears Club
A relaxing vacation, a spectacular lodge, endless activities, all with a breathtaking view of Grandfather Mountain. Our recently renovated lodge sleeps 8 to 10, has a stunning island kitchen, 3 fireplaces, EV charging station and amenities galore. The Mayers lodge is located just outside Boone in a very exclusive gated community called “Hound Ears”. Established in the mid 60’s, it is not only beautiful but also very convenient to shopping and restaurants. Boone, Linville, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock are just minutes away. You can book this at VRBO.com/20279354ha
The local area is teeming with activities and attractions. Hiking, golf, fishing, rafting, climbing, waterfalls and the list goes on. If it’s shopping you crave, you’ll find quaint little towns with unique wares from local vendors, one-of-a-kind keepsakes as well as world class art.
If you desire to venture out a little further, a day trip to Ashville is a MUST. Visit the world famous Biltmore House, built and completed by the Vanderbilt Family in 1895. This house is located on 8,000 acres, is 175,000 sf and defies description. Finish the day with a late lunch or early dinner on the front porch of The Omni Grove Park Inn. It was established in 1913 and you won’t be disappointed.
Each evening, as the beautiful sunset fades, you may be pondering dining out. The local area has a large array of cuisine to satisfy any and everyone’s palate. From fast-food to world class, your choice will be difficult. Or, stay relaxed with your glass of wine, the twinkling view, the warmth of the fire pit, and order in. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
DESSERT! Do I have your attention? Hop in the car and head to Kilwin’s on Main Street in Blowing Rock. Get your taste buds ready for an extravaganza. Home- made Mackinac Island fudge, flavor upon flavor of original recipe ice creams, candy apples, chocolates…. the list never ends. One visit isn’t enough so plan accordingly.
Each morning, as the sun rises on another spectacular day, you may decide to stay in your jams, have that delicious cup of joe and enjoy that view of Grandfather. Or, you could settle in with a good book or shut those eyes for a relaxing nap. It never get’s old.
If your desire is to hit the ski slopes, we have some of the best skiing in North Carolina. Spend an exuberating day on Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain or Appalachian Ski Mountain, all just minutes away. If you don’t like those long boards on your feet, tubing and snow mobiling are also available. Afterwards, return to our cozy lodge to a crackling fire in the fireplace, nice glass of wine, hot chocolate with marsh mellows or a warm cup of joe.
The Mayers lodge was designed and renovated not only around our family but also visiting families as well. We strive to make your stay as stress free and relaxing as possible. Being right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where Daniel Boone called home, history abounds. There is always something to do. We would enjoy the opportunity to have you as our guests. We won’t disappoint.

Great location with easy access to area attractions and towns. Beautiful mountain views. The house was very clean and well stocked. Host was very helpful and attentive.
Our stay was perfect for our family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. The location was a good spot for those traveling from Charlotte and Raleigh area. The views were even better in person. The house literally had everything you might need when hosting family. There was space for football watching and game playing around the table. The real fireplace, cold temps, and snow in the distance made the perfect backdrop.
For those staying, know that communication with the owner is excellent, and she is there to make you stay easy and fulfilling. She has plenty of kitchen wares to keep the party going.
If you are traveling with toddlers or elderly, just note that there is a set of stairs to the downstairs rooms that lacks a railing on one side. There is a baby gate for use and a rail that begins about half-way down on the left. We had the grandparents on the main floor and enough hands and eyes on the toddler that neither were an issue.
Decor was as expected for many of the homes in the area. It has your typically mountain feel. You can see some updates and some original work.
Everything was convenient to the location. Plenty to do in Boone and Blowing Rock. Great restaurants and shopping. If breweries are your thing, there are several really good ones too.
We were pleased with our stay and highly recommend this property.
It was absolutely perfect!! We love to cook and the host had an extremely well stocked kitchen with every appliance needed, serving platters, and plenty of china and wine glasses. The view is outstanding!! It was also nice having the convenience of a washer/dryer with a 2 year old. We will definitely be back!
We gathered for a graduation and our group was large (11). The house was perfect for our needs and the process was simple. The property manager was amazing and the views were stunning of Grandfather Mountain.
What a wonderful view we had!! What a way to wake up! Temperature was comfortable, beds and bedding were comfortable and clean, floors were clean and finally there was no lack of entertainment.
There’s nothing we needed that Pam didn’t have.
We much appreciate the ownership and management of this property. We would love to stay again!
The home was even more beautiful than your pictures. The Host was amazing! We arrived on Friday 12/23/22. The winter storm hit, power & water went out. There was nothing to do except keep the fireplaces going. The support system this neighborhood has is like you’d hope everyone has. Wood delivered !! Power came on but it was time to go. But we had a memorable Christmas skied & tube To Much Fun !! Definitely recommend this home & location ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We loved the house and it as decorated nicely. Great space for 3 couples. We enjoyed the view, fireplaces and outdoor fire pit. The house is a little musty smelling but there is a humidifier to help. The screened in porch is amazing as well as the upstairs patio with lots of seating. The refrigerator had a lot of food in it, and the bathroom had a lot of personal supplies. Both were a little uncomfortable in the time of covid. Less stuff would be better! We were also surprised to see a camera in the kitchen on top of the cabinets. Not sure if it was on but creepy, none the less. All in all we had a great visit and I would recommend this home and would stay there again.

Great view, well- worn house
The owner was great to deal with. She called me directly after I asked any questions. Unfortunately that doesn’t help when you arrive at a house and discover: it was not clean, very dated with kitchen cabinets that are falling apart, chunks of linoleum missing. Carpet has patches everywhere. There is so much clutter we barely had any space to prepare meals. No place to put our groceries. A few of the side tables were literally falling apart. All appliances worked but were very old. Except the new Keurig!
It seemed like a great area, to stay in Hounds Ears, we seem to have gotten the oldest house in the subdivision. Being in a gated community does not equate to a great place. Definitely needs some work and care and seems a bit neglected.
The last 200-300 ft were very steep. We were ok in our SUV but my son’s Toyota Corolla didn’t like it. Overall, it was dirty. Back porch was a mess, I swept it so we could go sit out there.
I rented thru VRBO, don’t think I’ll do that again
This home has breathtaking views over the valley to the next mountains. Nearly at the end of a road to the top of the mountain. Dog friendly and so clean that you would never know any pets ever stayed there. lVery close to attractions. Great place for a family vacation. Pam, the owner/host was extremely accomodating and welcoming.
We had a lovely stay at Pam's home! She was super easy to communicate with and very helpful with advice for activities and restaurants in the area. The home is perfect for a large gathering, wonderful open kitchen/family room with plenty of space to spread out, play games and visit. The view is incredible! Also very easy location to Hawksnest, Grandfather Mountain and the Alpine Coaster. We will definitely return again.
We really enjoyed our stay at the property. It was a great location and the neighborhood even has some cool hiking trails with giant rocks. The owners were very accommodating and the house was stocked with everything you need. We would definitely stay there again!
Pam the owner was Extremely attentive in every step of the way.
The house was stocked with everything you want and need.
The view and the comfort within the home or by far Beyond my expectations.
Pam thank you very much for sharing your home with us. Happy new year.
I have stayed in VRBO’s and for years. This property was , by far, the best stocked I have EVER seen!! I could’ve brought just protein and vegetables and everything else was provided!! That was not the best part! The views were unbelievably amazing that we layered up and sat on the deck to watch the hundreds of changing colors as the sunset!! Then a wee dram and a log fire…bliss!!! I’ll definitely stay here again….and again…and again!!! The owner called Ulysses when we were on our way and couldn’t be any more helpful 100/100!!!
Staying at this property was like visiting a dear friend's home. They provide everything you need for a comfortable, homey stay. The kitchen has everything you need, including complimentary spices and condiments and coffee. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of seating for our family of 6. We burned fires in all three fireplaces with the wood that was provided. The drive up to the house is a bit steep, so in times of snow and ice, you will need 4WD, but its an easy drive to everything you want to visit in the area. I can say with confidence that we intend to visit this home again.
The home was better than the pictures! Very clean and amazing relaxing views from a spacious deck. The deer next door added to the relaxing weekend. The family enjoyed our time together and we would certainly enjoy staying again.
Great experience... Great House... Great Spring Break...
The view of Grandfather mountain was breath taking, and I develop Mountain Property. I was really surprised. The house was also the best stocked house I have ever rented. Never had to go buy a special cooking tool. The house literally had everything. Owners were great and communicated well. Gave us great places to eat I have not been to previous. It's located in between Grandfather, Foscoe, Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock. We went to all these places. If you like to hike there are awesome moderate trails at the top of this community great for picture taking. Fun times... Great Spring break. Art and Family
