Moonrise Cottage features two bedrooms, one and a half baths, a spacious living area, and a full kitchen. The space is filled with comfortable furniture and eclectic art. Outside, you will find a large deck, screened porch, dock, and fenced dog yard. The large yard has plenty of room to play and park your boat or RV. The property is perfectly situated on an out of the way slew of the Bon Secour River. Fish off of the dock or explore the river by boat; you are minutes from the mouth of Bon Secour Bay. Within walking distance, the neighborhood features four fresh seafood markets, an outstanding restaurant, two public boat ramps, and three historic churches. The Cottage is 20 minutes from Foley, AL where you will find the Tanger outlets and OWA. OWA is a unique destination for youth sports tournaments, an amusement park, and a year round indoor water park. Foley also boasts a historic downtown with a railroad museum, beautiful park, and other local favorites. A turn down the peninsula to Fort Morgan offers dog friendly beach access, bird sanctuaries, and the historic Fort itself (also dog friendly). Fort Morgan was an important fort defending the pass into Mobile Bay. Her sister fort, Fort Gaines, is a short ferry ride away across the pass on Dauphin Island. 25 minutes in the other direction will take you to the picturesque Eastern Shore city of Fairhope, AL. Fairhope is a lovely, dog friendly town with an upscale downtown shopping and dining area. Down the hill at the pier, locals gather every evening to witness the breathtaking sunsets. Our dog enjoyed the dog enclosure. The house was clean offering all necessities with welcome basket and clear instructions on local eateries and checkout. Would stay again.
This is a cute little cottage. Love the artwork all around!
Everything we needed was there.
We enjoyed watching the sunrises and the waterfowl that came in to feed. Herons, Egrets, Pelicans, Vultures…
Depending on what you want to do, this location may be a little far out, but even going to Fort Morgan was only about 30 minutes.
We had our dogs and the fenced in yard was awesome!
The only things that would improve a longer-term stay would be to have some hooks for robes, etc., and maybe new mattresses…they were pretty saggy. But, neither of those was a deal breaker.
Nice and clean. Comfortable bed. Great place for a dog as the fenced area is nice and the lot outside of the fenced area is large to walk around. Several kayaks if one wants to kayak to the big water. The house sits on a extension off of the main river. Great restaurant right up the road - Tin Top. Several herons, great egret, osprey and other birds around. As stated in the other review the internet can be uncooperative at times. I would recommend a newer TV and explain the limitations in the property description like antenna only for local channels, smart or no (the current one isn’t smart so one would need to bring a personal smart device), etc.
Before we left on our trip, we received a message from our host saying we could arrive early, if we liked. We've never had anyone, anywhere say that to us. 😊
When we first walked in we saw a welcome basket on the dining table with treats for us and our doodle. So thoughtful!
It is an older home with charm and everything was fresh and clean. The fenced in portion of the yard was larger than it looked in the picture.
There was a nice, sturdy pier which made getting into our kayak very easy. The water was shallow close to the house.
The wifi wasn't dependable in the evenings.
We had to contact Amanda, who answered quickly and was so helpful and hospitable.
My favorite room was the sceened in porch.
Instructions for check in and check out were clear and easy.
