Worst experience - no access
Property access details sent out several days ahead mention that check out time is strictly 10-11am. Nowhere in the listing does it mention that, just that checkout time is 11am. This required a complete change of plans to make sure we could leave between 10 and 11.
Self check in required picking up the key from Jo Jos Chicken. There is no such store any more. No sign outside and everything is shuttered up. We asked at the steak place next door and they couldn’t give us any help, other than confirming that the chicken place no longer operated.
Never got to see the inside of the apartment. Our younger kids were over-tired and freaked out after driving around trying to find the place. The apartment is on a busy main road, and in the dark the area didn’t give a safe feeling to our kids. We didn’t have cell phone access to call, but did have data so we messaged the owner. Although we did get a response, simply asking where we were, by the time we received the message (spotty coverage) we’d made the decision to just find a hotel so we could get the kids to bed.
Not impressed at all. We’ve used VRBO properties a lot and never had an issue getting access. To give instructions that require access to a store that no longer exists is not acceptable. If you know that your check in instructions use a store that no longer exists you should change them. To require a one hour check out window, without making it clear in the description, or before the end of the cancellation window is misleading and deceptive.
**The 1 star for cleanliness is only because it wouldn’t let me leave it blank. We have no idea how clean the property was as we never saw the inside.
