Independent in Big Sur

"Clean room"

"The hotel was definitely a 4 star, the rooms were as stated ++, We did not want a car because of the high fee to park and I was told that if we needed short dist, trans, that it was complimentary + tip of course, 290 rooms 1 vehicle, that did not work! Very poor communication on this between the front desk, concierge and the valet. We ended up walking a lot and I have a back issue. The food and service were great and reasonable priced. The views were spectacular. The weather was cold, 60 ish, which is ok for outside but the lobby which has entertainment nightly was also mid 60's. We were told that if we complained they might turn on the heat, didn't happen. The entertainment and service were great! The hotel seems to cater more to business and large group gatherings and not the young family oriented. This being said, if you are aware of this ahead of time you can make it work, Overall it was a great anniversary stay with only a few glitches!"

"this is a property in needs for renovation, bedding was bad, room not insulated and noisy, rudimentary amenities (no safe in the room for example) and staff not very flexible (would not consider late checkout on a sunday, would only turn the beds if you asked for it ) - the only positive is the location."
