This was an ok place to stay not far from Berlin central station. However, quite costly on this particular night. Staff were not friendly, room was not clean and only one bathroom available with a toilet for 8 people. I’ve stayed in similar places in Germany which were much cleaner with better facilities.

Worth a try

We were very surprised to learn this was a hostel, rather than a hotel. That said, our stay was good. It was close to the train station, Breakfast was good, it was busy with students but overall, it turned out to be a good place to stay.

Overall A&O represents the modern hostel, cheap accommodation, but no spirit. They haven’t updated their self-check in to accommodate Expedia which would have helped them out as they were swamped at check- in, but the staff on hand seemed to manage. Their common area washroom was under repair and the shower head in my bathroom shower could only point to the wall and nowhere else. Everything else was good though, but don’t expect to meet a lot of people as they don’t push that aspect a lot.

Only complain is the noise between 1am to 3am, people laughing/talking out loud on the halls, but is manageable. Close to the Train station and bus was a plus. Area is really safe and can see people walking late during the night.

Stayed for 4 days in a private room. The hotel/hostel was okay for the price. They offer breakfast buffet with a wide selection of choices for an additional fee. The facility was a walking distance to the Berlin central station and it was safe/walkable at night.

We did not realize this facility was a youth hostel since it was listed as “hotel”. However, we had a nice but utilitarian room. It was good for our needs. However, it is in a residential area so if you are looking for shops, restaurants or nightlife the train station is your only option.

The matresses are very hard. And the walls are very thin, we could hear everyone all the time. Overall it was a good stay it was these issues that kind of ruined it a bit

Ok arrived and as expected more of a hostel than a hotel.. lots of young back packers by the door.. But I just needed something cheap and near the train station as I was leaving at 3am in the morning.. Digital check in and the young lady on reception give me a door key on the third floor.. Lift available.. again as expected and small functional room with en suite bathroom.. Two single beds..as requested.. Comfortable enough with clean sheets.. room a little warm as it was a beautiful day and the room had no fan.. Very happy with the shower and body wash.. only requirement for me.. Clean bed and a nice hot shower.. Maybe asking why have only given a general score of two.. As was leaving for the train and the airport at 3am.. 11.30pm..the noise and the slamming of doors was horrendous... Now I'm no grouch but after seeing that down stairs in reception is the following. Pool table.. games room and music playing, everything a young person wants.. Large group outside seem to enjoy what was on offer.. Stayed in AO hostel hotel..in Antwerp recently never had the issue there..

Surprising Gem

Did not expect much as I haven't stayed in a hostel since I was at school and when there were rooms for £15 a night j didn't have high expectations. Well I was surprised the bar was amazing and open 24 hours so despite me getting there at midnight it was buzzing. The self check in was difficult but staff were there.to do it old school. The rooms were functional and comfy (no keetle though) and very clean. The breakfast was nice, not fry up option but food was very well presented and tasty. Will definitely stay at one of these again

Stated at the a&o Berlin Hauptbahnhof from September 19 - 21 for the Berlin Marathon. They have a self-check in process using kiosk when you enter. This option did not work for me as the Expedia number and that which was on my Expedia confirmation were different. A member of the staff assisted me with checking in via the Kiosk and activating my door key. I was not satisfied with the cleanliness of the room that was reserved and my request to switch the room was met with satisfaction. The room was very clean and my stay from that moment was exceptional. During my stay, I utilized local options at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof Station. I also utilized the supermarket Kaufland to buy groceries to refrigerate. Most items that I needed were walking distance(up to 3 mile walking), but transportion is accessible, if preferable. Floor 0(Ground Floor) has a nice sitting area and there is food to order if needed. Breakfast if located on Floor -1(Basement) and options from whole grains(breads/roll), protein(meats), cereal, coffee, tea, juices are offered. I utilized the breakfast and a combination of my own food during my stay to meet my nutritional needs. I was able to utilize the laundry before leaving. Laundry detergent was provided by the front desk and an app is needed to start the wash and dryer. The staff were friendly and answered any questions that I had. The occupants of the room were all delightful. The neighborhood around the area felt safe, even at night.
