"When I arrived at the hotel, I had cash concealed inside a driver's license holder that was stored within my luggage. The luggage remained in my room throughout my stay. To the best of my knowledge, no one other than authorized hotel personnel had access to the room during the relevant period. In particular, housekeeping staff entered the room on at least two occasions.
After discovering that €1,000 was missing, I immediately notified the front desk and hotel security. Although I was informed that an internal investigation was conducted, the investigation appears to have been ineffective and inconclusive. Furthermore, I have not received any formal written report, findings, or explanation regarding the outcome of that investigation.
I subsequently discussed this matter with Mr Michael Buurmeijer, and made it clear that I disagree with the conclusions reached thus far and believe that a more thorough investigation is necessary. Given the circumstances, I consider the matter serious and unresolved.
Under Belgian law, hotels have a duty of care toward guests and may be held liable where guest property is lost, damaged, or stolen under circumstances involving hotel personnel, negligence, or inadequate security measures. At a minimum, I am entitled to a transparent explanation of the steps taken by the hotel in investigating this incident.
I am also concerned that I was not offered assistance in filing a police report at the time the matter was reported"
