Although the rooms were a little tired the helpfulness of the staff way made up for this. They went above and beyond to be so accommodating. I would definitely stay here again

Needs a bit of remodeling
Charming town to stay in for a trip to Bamburgh castle. Old hotel so some quirks to be expected. It was a picturesque view from our hotel room and our beds were comfortable and clean However, toilet didn’t flush reliably and shower was not functioning. Glasses by the kettle were grimy and there were several spiders taking up residence in the bathroom. The food was very good and the women running it was lovely and clearly doing everything herself.

An elderly Coaching Inn - which, sadly, is starting to show it's age. Staffing levels do not seem to be adequate; there are known problems with the hot water supply and the meal menu was limited. Nevertheless, the room was quiet and comfortable enough and the hotel is very well situated for visiting the coast and numerous local attractions such as Bamburgh Castle. Useful bus services to Berwick, Bambugh and Newcastle.

On arrival we were greeted well and efficiently, however there was not really enough staff to cover everything. Staff were friendly and very helpful . I booked for three nights and expected three full English breakfasts. Unfortunately upon arrival we were informed that there was no chef for Saturday morning while this was disappointing we were assured all would be ok for Sunday and Monday morning . On Sunday there was a full English which was good, however Monday morning chef failed to turn up so it was tea and toast . This was not what I had paid for . The hotel despite been clean and tidy is very tired and needs a considerable sum spending on it to justify its three star rating . While the bedroom was spacious and clean the bathroom was a different matter . Ceiling cracked above the wash basin, shaving light not working , radiator not working . The window was impossible to open as the cords on the sash were snapped and looked like they had been for years . All in all a disappointing stay , despite the friendly and helpful staff .

Good hotel, welcome stop on our Northumberland coast path walk
It's as if this hotel is a work in progress which is surprising due to its history - Smells very damp and the decor needs a major lift as do the rooms which are exceptionally basic. This was very disappointing. Facilities in rooms, shower, toilet, carpets, beds and storage ALL need improving. Then as a paradox you go for food in a modern, well presented restaurant which has amazing food! A real dilemma to suggest folks stay here - the place was full of Groupon deals and everyone raved about the food and 'accepted' the conditions because of that. I dont share this, the place needs an upgrade and to get rid of the overpowering smell of damp and decay.
