Beaune City Centre Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Beaune which includes street scenes and a city as well as a small group of people
Come for the wine and appreciate the hospitality. See why the city is crucial to a region cherished globally.

Visit Beaune City Center, the hub of the Beaune region. You’ll constantly find a connection to the wine industry here among the many wineries.

A good place to start for an excellent French-language overview is the Burgundy Wine Museum, which follows the region’s wine production from very early times to the present. Take your interest to the next level by visiting La Maison des Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne to learn about the many small parcels of land where the region’s iconic grapes are grown.

Decide which areas to visit with information from the Tourism Office for Beaune. Near this office is the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Beaune, with important works from the 16th and 17th centuries, particularly by Dutch and Flemish artists.

Look for the bright-colored mosaic roof of the Hospices de Beaune, an almshouse from the Middle Ages. This is also where a famous charity wine auction is held every November. Tour this fascinating gothic building with its ornate ceilings and relics from earlier times.

Beaune was originally a walled town. Walk along the perimeter known as the Remparts des Dames for a view of the inner town and the portion outside. Over time, much of the stone of the walls was used to create village homes.

Download the walking tour app for a descriptive narrative of the wall as well as other attractions, such as the 11th-century Basilica Collégiale Notre-Dame Church. The Visiotrain runs tours to let you sit back and take in the sights. A special children’s tour is available too.

In addition to wine, mustard is a famous regional specialty, as explained in a tour of La Moutarderie Fallot with tastings. Wine sampling and regional food sessions are available at various locations and can be booked online.

Plan to view the artistic light show of Beaune City Center’s building exteriors throughout the summer.
