We had the most wonderful stay in Vico. If you are looking to immerse yourself in true Italian life, this is the village and house for you! We are a family of four with children aged 7 and 9. They absolutely loved the pool outside, and the jacuzzi was lots of fun in the evenings after a day sightseeing.
The house and views are breathtaking. In fact, the photos cannot do the views justice. I will challenge you to find a better view when you are washing up in the mornings! We spent a lot of time lazing around on the patio, having barbecues under the grapevine and enjoying every corner of the house. My favourite spots were in the swing chair, on the sunny patio area overlooking the majestic landscape and in the hallway curled up on one of the armchairs. You will have everything you need in the house, and while there isn't WiFi, it's a great reminder that life doesn't stop just because the internet isn't available. In fact, it's quite the opposite.
We explored Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Bologna and Bagni di Lucca. All are within an hour or so's drive away and are well worth visiting if you want to break up your time at the house with a spot of sightseeing. There is also a great outdoor swimming pool in Bagni di Lucca and if you are looking for the best river swim you will find it at Canyon Park just a few minutes down the road. Here you can swim in the most refreshing and clear lagoon or take a paddleboard down the river. It's free to swim, but if you want a paddleboard they are 20 euros each. Well worth it!
The village itself is one of the most unique places we have ever visited. The people are so friendly and the artwork around the village is just wonderful to see. The kids had great fun trying to find the next piece of artwork or sculpture as we explored. By day the village is beautiful to walk around with its winding pathways and beautiful views all around. There is one restaurant in the village which we visited many times. Here you will find a warm welcome, wonderful food and great prices! A meal with starters, main course, dessert and wine came to 60 euros for all of us. You'll have some of the best pasta you have ever tasted. We were also able to sample some wonderful meats, including wild boar and rabbit hunted locally. It is advised to book each night as it does get busy at times. We also took part in the local activities including bingo and a Norwegian waffle party!
Please do not hesitate to book your stay here. It was amazing!
