Dairy Cottage in Ayr for Large Groups, professional +partially abled

Spacious, large, and bright, Dairy Cottage is a unique cottage in Ayr that was once the local dairy and is now a welcoming holiday home. Built in the 1840’s, the sandstone cottage has been renovated into a beautiful, detached vacation rental, set in a quiet cobbled courtyard. With 3 bedrooms and an open plan living space, this is a popular family or group property.

Built over two floors, the cottage is suitable for children and partially able guests, with a bedroom and a bathroom on the ground floor, and a gradual inclined path leading up to the garden door is an easy entrance into the house. A cot and high chair can be provided on request.

The spacious living room opens into the dining kitchen, with French doors opening into the well-maintained, south-facing garden. The modern fitted kitchen has a breakfast bar with stools, a dining table with six chairs, and all of the modern appliances you will need for your stay including a microwave and washing machine. The downstairs bathroom has a gold tapped-bath, and the upstairs bathroom has an electric shower. The large double bedroom with a king-size bed is on the ground floor, and the two twin bedrooms are upstairs
.The 3 bedrooms are all very apart and so no noises can be heard between them. None of them are beside the other. one is downstairs and the 2 upstairs are at different ends of a long corridor

Beside the cottage is a sunny south-facing walled garden, complete with patio and wooden picnic table. The driveway in front of the cottage has parking available for two cars, and the cottage is completely off the road, so there is no traffic noise at all.

Dairy Holiday Cottage in Ayr is located next to Church Cottage ( together can sleep 9 people) and a 3-minute walk from Woodcroft and Stable Cottages – the four cottages can be booked for up to 16 people.

Set in a quiet courtyard behind St Columba’s Church on a Victorian residential street, Dairy Cottage is a particularly peaceful and relaxing holiday location, with the advantage of being just a 5-minute leisurely stroll to the bustle of Ayr town centre, beach, and Belleisle Park. An Odeon cinema, countless restaurants, shops, sports centre are all just along the road from Dairy Cottage, making it a great base for your Ayrshire holiday.

  • "Until standardisation of weights and measures in the 18th century, a "mile" in Scotland could be a variable distance. Generally a Scottish mile was longer than a mile in England, a fact which was immortalised by Robert Burns in his poem "Tam o' Shanter" - "We think na on the lang Scots miles..."

After the Union of the Parliaments in 1701, the standard English measure began to be introduced in Scotland, gradually replacing the Lang Scots Mile. The Lang Scots Mile Walk was created in 2002 on the seafront of Ayr to commemorate the town's historical links with Burns as well as to encourage healthy exercise. It was estimated that a 10 stone man or woman walking Lang Scots Mile would burn off 115 calories and a 16 stone person, 184 calories."

OK-ish

I can't imagine who found it 'exceptional' as it was only OK.Kitchen not absolutely clean and dishes an odd assortment not calculated for poss 6 people. I had max two people but although there were countless teacups and saucers (?) only one bowl to serve food- plenty of small fruit bowls. Bedding was a bit poor except for the downstairs duvetcover. The pillows all pretty awful and ancient. Bedding upstairs looked as if from a charity shop, though clean. Towels all clean but again old looking. All fine for students probably. The main window in sitting room looked directly onto nice family at play ( including ball games) chat ect so I had to keep the blind shut. The upstairs shower room a bit small, the downstairs bedroom/bathroom was billed as possibly for someone with mobility issues but a bath with tap only and I think hard for a disabled person to get in/out of,The location was the best in Ayr but bearing in mind the cost and limited presentation I was not satisfied.

Overall cleaning

This property was essentially a nice house, with a beautiful garden, however, the cleanliness on arrival was questionable. All the cups and cutlery had to be washed thoroughly before use, the cooker hob was still greasy and the fridge needed cleaning out before use. It was also dusty under the bed. The fridge was also not switched and the house was cold. The property in general needs quite a bit of updating especially the double bedroom.and bathrooms. The location was quiet and great for access to central Ayr. There was a visitors book but no-one appears to have written in it for quite a while. There is a short walk to the beach for lovely views of Arran and to watch the sunset.
