Franklin Park’s historically low rents have made this slice of industrial suburbia in Austin a cultural melting pot.

Situated in the far south-eastern corner of Austin and bordered by the highway, Franklin Park is an often overlooked district of the Texan capital. The family-friendly Franklin Neighbourhood Park has sports fields, playgrounds and barbecue areas. Just to the east is McKinney Falls State Park, for those who love rock hopping among waterfalls and hiking nature trails. The hotel overall was dirty. The elevator had drink stains and the floor was sticky. The hallways weren’t vacuumed, our room had a stale smell. I know you get what you pay for, but it doesn’t cost extra to be clean.
