"I was just coming off a tour and had an extra night to spend in Arusha. Rather than spend the night in the tour hotel I decided to try Mc-Elly's for about 4x LESS the price. The area in the daytime is a bit chaotic (industrial area) but it's the real Africa not what I saw in the tour hotel. As soon as the sun goes down it was very quiet. Loved sitting out on my balcony. Breakfast was great, lots of variety and the manager of the hotel even greeted me asking me how I found everything. Nice...

"I stayed here recently for business, and found the hotel to be a slightly dated design. Hotel staff and porters were exceedingly helpful, but service was very slow in the dining hall (probably as we were a big group). The hotel very kindly opened the breakfast hall early one morning when we were going on a safari day, and we were pleased to see a full range of breakfast was available then. Sadly after getting back from the safari there was no hot water. No wifi availble in the rooms, and the...

"We stayed at Joshmal Hotel for one night, and had a good experience. The room was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. We were leaving pretty early the following morning, so they arranged for breakfast to start a little earlier than usual, so we got to eat before we left."

"The place is what you pay for I guess. You'd think £60 would go farther in Tanzania but apparently not, Arusha is expensive.
Basically, rooms are like prison cells, bathrooms terrible, and it took a few tries to find a room with working aircon. Staff were friendly enough if a little inefficient.
What is with having to ask for toilet paper all the time - just have some in the room, its a basic necessity!!!"

10/10 Excellent
"Great location and a perfect place to relax after our Safari. The restaurant and staff were also great:)"

Kibo Palace Hotel Arusha
6/10 Okay
"Internet is inefficient. OK for leisure travelers but tough on business use. Frequent municipal power failures requires better backup generators, and internet required constant re-entering of password. A better automatic reconnect feature is required"

Gran Melia Arusha
10/10 Excellent
"Hands down best hotel in Arusha. Rooms were spacious and immaculate. Impeccable decor . Spacious lobby to hang around .Staff are excellent from bell boys to reception to dining room staff.Coffee plantation on site from which their coffee is sourced. Coffee is amazing and I bought some to take home. Grounds are immaculately maintained and the boys in the garden even plucked some Guavas for me.
Beautiful pool. Breakfast was amazing with a wide spread . They have a workshop for people with disabilities at the back from where we bought merchandise .
They allowed late check out on request . Every single person went out of their way to help to make our stay memorable.
Highly recommend staying here. All my friends thanked me for booking this hotel for our stay in Arusha "

Gold Crest Hotel, Arusha
4/10 Poor
"It was an adventure. We’d arranged to have a hotel shuttle to pick us up at the airport. The driver was not there, and we called the hotel; the staff was agitated, and could not explain it. It turns out the driver had fallen asleep while waiting (it was after midnight), and it took a while for him to wake up. He drove us to hotel with his brights on, despite other cars flashing theirs to request that he dim his lights.
The hotel staff was polite, although some of them smelled so bad that we had to air out our room when they entered it.
At dinner, we were given a menu. Almost everything had onions, garlic, and/or peppers, none of which I eat. So, I ordered sea food, and was then told they had no sea food. I guess they don’t know what they don’t have until someone orders it… So, I had a bowl of rice for dinner. We saw that, when guests left the dining room after eating, place mats were simply brushed off to clear the crumbs, rather than replaced with clean ones.
The Presidential Suite was a standard hotel room with a bedroom and a living room. It had a small kitchenette with a non-working stove and non-working refrigerator. The image of the Presidential Suite shown on the website showing plush furniture is actually their lobby.

Fun Retreat Resort, Hotel and Ayurveda Spa
8/10 Good
"Great staff. I would not class this as a five star hotel. It is situated outside the city and I was the only guest. Electric kept going off but the staff were really kind. The spa was good but in Aruba you must have a doctor for the spa and the doctor at this spa was missing. Many services were not available because he was not there. "

Kiboko Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"The location of this lodge is amazing, offering a serene setting to enjoy the wildlife of Tanzania when not on safari. The lodge sits on the edge of a marsh and gave us multiple terrace options (including a private one attached to our room) to do some bird watching. While there , we saw the African fish eagle and Black-and-white cascade hornbill, songbirds too many to count, along with some visiting Vervet monkeys. The staff were among the most attentive and friendly that we have experienced and our room (the Simba house) was everything we could hope for. We highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quieter place to relax. "
