Hoshino Resorts KAI Kirishima

10/10 Excellent

"Absolutely loved this hotel with amazing views, extremely helpful friendly staff, delicious meals and the most fun way ever to get to the public baths. There’s also a cultural show every evening, as well as a wide range of complimentary drinks you can help yourself to at any time. I would stay here again!"

Kirinosato

10/10 Excellent

"This place is literally heaven. It’s very luxurious. The staff is amazing. The food is impeccable. The chef literally changes the menu every day every morning every night. The most amazing thing was my room. It was incredible. It had an outside hot Springs the living room the bathroom and the private sauna is just amazing super clean super super clean. They give you robes Japanese where to go outside Japanese where to go to dinner and breakfast. The outside is clean air and you can visit the small village town where only Japanese tourist come there’s no foreigners which is amazing. It’s just very authentic and there’s a live volcano and that’s why there’s a natural hot spring. I would love to go in the winter as well."

The Pulse KIRISHIMA

10/10 Excellent

"There are many hotels to choose from in the Kirishima area, but I selected Pulse Kirishima because it's only about a 5-minute drive from Kirishima Jingu, making it a great base for sightseeing. I highly recommend booking a room in the Renovated Wing. We stayed in a Superior Room, and it was well worth it. The renovated wing is much closer to the lobby, restaurant, pool, and onsen, making it very convenient. The view from our room was stunning. However, if you're visiting during the summer, keep in mind that you'll likely hear noise from the pool until around 6:00 PM. This hotel is especially popular with families, including grandparents traveling with young children. The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, but if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat, you may want to consider another property. At check-in, guests can reserve private karaoke rooms and a private onsen for an additional fee, which is a nice option for families or couples. The parking lot fills up quickly, so I recommend arriving early. The check-in process began around 2:30 PM, with room keys distributed at 3:00 PM. While the process was organized, I think a welcome drink service during the wait would have made the arrival experience even better. There aren't many restaurants in the surrounding area, so I highly recommend booking the half-board plan, which includes both the dinner and breakfast buffets. It was the most convenient option and made our stay much more enjoyable."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Araso?

The best area to stay in Araso, Miyazaki Prefecture, is around the city centre, particularly near Araso Station.

The city centre offers the most convenience and a good selection of amenities. You'll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and local businesses within easy walking distance of Araso Station. The area around Honmachi-dori, a key shopping street, is particularly good for finding places to eat and browse.

Couples looking for a relaxing and convenient base will appreciate this area. With the station nearby, it's easy to explore other parts of Miyazaki Prefecture, and there are many dining options for evening meals. The proximity to local parks and the Araso River also provides pleasant opportunities for strolls.

For those prioritising a tranquil experience with direct access to nature, the areas slightly outside the immediate city centre, particularly towards the coastal regions, offer excellent options. These often feature smaller, more secluded accommodations with lovely views of the ocean or surrounding greenery.

When is the best time to go to Araso?

The best time to go to Araso, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months.

Spring in Araso brings pleasant temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. This season is particularly beautiful for those interested in outdoor activities like hiking along the coastal trails or visiting the scenic Takachiho Gorge without the intense summer heat. The mild weather also makes it comfortable for enjoying the local cuisine at outdoor cafes.

Autumn offers similarly agreeable weather, with temperatures usually between 18°C and 28°C. The landscape transforms with vibrant autumnal colours, especially around the forested areas and river valleys, which is great for photography enthusiasts and those who appreciate scenic drives. This period also often coincides with local harvest festivals, providing a unique cultural experience for travellers.

While summer (June to August) can be warm and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C and a higher chance of rain, it's still a good time for water sports and beach activities along Araso's coastline.
