"A pleasantly surprising stay in the Saumur/ Doué-la-Fontaine area of the Loire. Je recommande vivement d'y passer une ou plusieurs nuits. Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir pour découvrir les autres logements. Merci encore Hugo pour l'accueil, le petit-déjeuner personnalisé et l'attention particulière que tu portes à ce que le séjour se passe...

"I have stayed in a lot of Chateaus- turned-hotels over my years of travel, so I think I can rave about this stay with credibility. It was a 10 out of 10. I loved the period architecture, the period fixtures, carvings, the 20’ ceilings, the paneled walls and matching room decor, and the thoughtful little things like the gourmet tea sachets, Nespresso/machine, and a shoe horn in the closet."

"The staff were nice! But we had to pay 20 euros for sheets and towels as they were not included with the room. This was not stated until after the booking was made. Also the beds were basically just sofas, not very comfortable. Cheap just for a night to sleep but I would not stay there for more than a night."

"This hotel is located on the quiet side of the train station. It is about 10 minutes walk across the walk bridge. There’s an elevator on the station side. The room is spacious and clean, and bathroom is also very spacious. The mattress is super firm and my back loved it!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ambillou-Château?
The best area to stay in Ambillou-Château is directly within the village centre, particularly around the Château d'Ambillou.

This central area offers a concentrated experience of the village's charm. You'll find local shops, a few eateries, and the historic Château itself, which is a focal point. The streets here are generally quiet and well-maintained, providing a pleasant setting for a leisurely stay.

For couples seeking a romantic and relaxed getaway, staying near the Château is ideal. Many guesthouses and boutique accommodations are situated within walking distance of the Château, offering a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding Loire Valley.
When is the best time to go to Ambillou-Château?
The best time to visit Ambillou-Château is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the region's attractions are in full swing.

During these months, the Loire Valley experiences mild temperatures, ideal for exploring the châteaux and vineyards without the intense heat of summer. The gardens are particularly beautiful in late spring, with many flowers in bloom, offering a lovely backdrop for strolls.

For families, visiting in May or June can be particularly rewarding. The days are long, allowing for extended outdoor activities, and many local festivals and events begin to take place. The summer crowds haven't fully arrived yet, making for a more relaxed experience at popular sites.

Couples might find September and October to be an excellent choice. The harvest season is underway in the vineyards, providing opportunities for wine-tasting tours and a chance to see the region in a different light.
