The best area to stay in Alvaro is the village centre, particularly around Largo do Pelourinho, for a blend of historical charm and convenience.

This central area is the heart of Alvaro, characterised by its traditional schist houses and narrow, winding streets. Largo do Pelourinho, with its historic pillory, is a central landmark, and you'll find the main church and a few local eateries within easy walking distance. It's a compact and pedestrian-friendly area.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate the village centre. The quiet streets and the opportunity to stroll hand-in-hand through historic alleys, perhaps stopping at a local cafe for a coffee, create a relaxing experience. The proximity to the Zêzere River also offers chances for pleasant walks along the water's edge.

For those interested in exploring the natural beauty of the region, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, but still within easy reach, offers properties with more space and often better views of the surrounding mountains and river.

The best time to go to Alvaro is during the spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October).

During spring, the weather is pleasantly mild, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. The landscape is lush and green, and the wildflowers are in full bloom, offering excellent opportunities for photography and outdoor activities like hiking along the Zêzere River. It's also a quieter time to visit before the peak summer crowds.

Early autumn also offers comfortable temperatures, typically between 18°C and 28°C, and the vibrant colours of the changing leaves add to the scenery. This period is superb for those who enjoy walking tours and discovering the historic schist villages nearby without the intense heat of summer.
