McKays Hotel Bar & Restaurant

McKays Hotel Bar & Restaurant

8/10 Good
"Overall really nice stay. Spacious and clean room with windows you can actually open ! Comfy bed but pillows could have been better (bigger). Tip - get there early if you are driving as the car park takes around 10 cars and it was full so be prepared to park a couple of streets away like we had to. Football on the telly in tha bar and on a very large screen off the lounge. Bar a wee bit on the expensive side. Evening entertainment in the bar catered to a wide taste. Location was great, bang smack in the centre of town near the bus and train station Staff were lovely all round. Lastly, the breakfast was just fantastic."

Craigroyston House & Lodge

Craigroyston House & Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"What a remarkable stay! The room was well-appointed and comfortable, the host, Greg, was charming and wonderful (his recommendations for stops on the way into the Highlands were top-tier), the food was delicious, and the property was absolutely gorgeous (as a gardener, I must say…). A short walk through the gardens into town was a perfect way to be introduced to such a lovely, lovely place."

Dalmunzie Castle Hotel

Dalmunzie Castle Hotel

8/10 Good
"We did love this hotel, it has a charm and is an amazing location, a mile long drive into the estate, magical. The castle it's self is a bit like a worn walking boot, scuffed, not new or smart, but very comfortable. Our room had a four poster bed so high I had to help my wife onto it, quite funny. Food was very good, dinner delicious and a good choice at breakfast. It does need up dating, and sprucing up, but stepping out and looking up at the hills surrounding you makes you think you are somewhere special."

Scotlands Spa Hotel

Scotlands Spa Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"I spent two nights at the Spa hotel. I managed to park in the adjacent hotel car park which was very convenient. My room was great with a large TV , coffee machine, fridge and kettle. A proper bath in the en suite. Plenty of hangers. Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety. The only downside of my stay was I was housed in a separate building to the main hotel. This meant I had to walk outside onto the pavement and cross a road to access my room. However you were away from the noise of the main hotel."

When is the best time to go to Alrick?
The best time to visit Alrick is typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically May through September, when the weather is generally mildest and the days are longer.During these months, you'll find the most pleasant conditions for outdoor activities like hiking in the Angus Glens or exploring Alrick's historic sites. The warmer temperatures make it ideal for enjoying the stunning natural landscapes without the chill and shorter daylight hours of winter. For those interested in local culture and events, the summer months often feature agricultural shows and local festivals in the surrounding Angus region, offering a glimpse into Scottish traditions. While it can be a bit busier, particularly in July and August, the extended daylight allows for more extensive sightseeing.Travellers looking for a quieter experience might prefer May or September. The weather is still favourable, but there are generally fewer crowds, and the changing colours of the landscape, especially in September, are particularly striking.
