Driftwood - a pet friendly that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

The cottage is only a minute's walk up Haven Hill from Craster's harbourfront, so you're right in the heart of the village here, but the cottage is set back from the road, guaranteeing peace and quiet.

Driftwood is one of a cluster of similar cottages, most of which date from the late 1800s (in fact, it's right next door to one of our other Craster properties, Harbourway).

Like the other cottages in the terrace, it's pretty as a postcard. Step through the gate and walk up the garden path to the house, then enter the delightful open plan kitchen/dining/living room a beautifully designed space with deep sofas a window seat to view harbour life taking place, and a gorgeous stone fireplace, the hearth charred coal-black by a couple of centuries' worth of open fires (thankfully, for ease of use, there's a woodburner these days).

The room sets the decorative tone for the rest of the house: light walls, pine doors, wood effect porcelain floors and knick-knacks dotted around for character. The kitchen is compact but well equipped, with induction hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and a washer dryer. At the rear of the property, there is a further small stone seating area with a barbecue, ideal for summertime suppers.

Both bedrooms are upstairs, and furnished in our "Catch the Breeze" signature style; one has an en-suite shower room and there is also a further bathroom in between them. If it gets really chilly there is air source central heating throughout keeping the cottage toasty, but once the woodburner's roaring away downstairs you more than likely won't need them.

Handily, there are two parking spaces – a rarity in Craster – and the cottage is in a super spot for exploring: Dunstanburgh Castle is just north along the coast, while southwards, the coast path leads to Cullernose Point. Don't miss picking up some smoked fish from the harbourside curing sheds: a fresh kipper makes the ultimate Craster breakfast.

A well-behaved dog is welcome: all we also ask that they're aged one or over.

Craster in the sun.

An excellent property with all the things you want/need in a holiday let. Nothing overlooked and a very good location for walkers, without getting in the car.

Fabulous return to Craster

Lovely return to Driftwood. So very comfortable and clean with everything we needed for in-house catering and a generous welcome pack, thank you. Can recommend excellent meals at the Jolly Fisherman and outstanding wood fired pizza from Embers at Eleanor’s Byre. We’ll be back!

Outstanding stay at a beautiful seaside cottage

What a wonderful cottage! It was perfect for us as a young family and our two year old fell in love with Craster as much as we did. The bay window is superb to watch all the goings on of Craster and it is furnished to a high standard. We will definitely be back.

Perfect

Beautiful place, incredibly well provisioned and comfortable. Absolutely intend to return here, and to try out some of the other properties - our neighbours during our stay said how lovely the other cottages were too and that they'd stayed in multiple. Private parking spot, enormous, soft towels, thoughtful welcome pack and just a simply gorgeous spot!

Perfection

The cottage is in one of our favourite locations on the Northumberland coast and has a harbour view Beautifully warm and refurbished to a high standard, Driftwood was inviting and comfortable to come home to after a day out. We always enjoy a holiday by the sea, and Driftwood was one of the best cottages we have stayed in Craster

Delightful cottage, lovely location, very well equipped

The cottage was very clean, warm and comfortable. We loved sitting around the table at the front, looking out over the harbour. Kitchen was very well equipped and it was easy to cook simple meals on several nights. The beds were very comfortable and bathrooms spacious and clean. We enjoyed walks from the house, eating at the Cottage Inn nearby, take away fish and chips just up the road (open Fri, Sat and Sun) and Craster kippers. The owners provided a list of equipment and supplies before we arrived and suggestions for what we needed to bring which was very helpful.

Beautiful cottage in excellent location

The cottage is in immaculate condition and well located in beautiful Craster village. It’s a stone’s throw from the harbour and the pub, and a mile or so walk from Dunstanburgh castle. It’s really convenient that the cottage has parking for 2 cars. The cottage is extremely well equipped, with everything you could need for cooking, dishwasher and laundry tabs, games to play, hairdryers, plenty of towels and cosy blankets. The cottage is very warm (almost too hot!) so we didn’t need to use the stove, but wood was provided. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely return.

Warm and Welcoming

As we walked into the cottage on a cold November day we were greeted with a warm, cosy and tastefully decorated living area. Because there were only two of us, we had a sofa each on which to lounge and watch the TV although we struggled with the technology as neither of us own TVs. We loved watching the sky and the sea from the bay window with its comfortable window seat. Upstairs was even warmer so we turned down all the radiators after the first night. High quality welcome pack with lovely bread, butter, jam, all local produce. We loved it.

Driftwood Stay

Driftwood was as described on the website and was a relaxing, clean and comfortable holiday base. The welcome pack was excellent and items appeared to come from the community shop in nearby Embleton which was pleasing. The maps and local information books were useful and plenty of games and books were provided too. Negatives were the deep bath with no handles (too challenging for we oldies!), the stairs were steep and the property was on the main road into Craster, therefore busy with traffic and people. Craster is a good base for exploring the area. The crab soup at the local pub The Jolly Fisherman shouldn't be missed and the local kippers lived up to expectations too!
