I stayed here for about a Month & overall had a good experience. There were a few things that could have been better, but I would still recommend it to others - especially short term
The Good
The location is great as you are right across the street from UNM, directly next to a couple of restaurants and a short walk to Nob Hill. It's a short trip to downtown, old town and the airport. You are in a city, so you will see people who are unhoused, but I never felt in danger.
The place itself is nice; it's a studio, but it is a large one. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, plates, and had a few cooking essentials such as olive oil, spices, etc. The decorations are fun and I really appreciated having a desk for work. The Parking was convenient and I never had an issue finding a space.
Could Be Better
There were two issues the popped up while I was there and unfortunately they are both not due to the owner.
1) The internet was flakey at times. The first 2 weeks that I was there it was pretty stable, occasionally having buffering issues while streaming, but it would usually recover and it didn't interfere with my work. Starting about the 3rd week, it started having more issues with buffering and at times being unusable for minutes at a time (annoying for work conference call interruptions). Towards the end of the 3rd week, the internet went out for ~6 hours in the middle of a workday. I tried resetting the modem to no avail and confirmed there was a Comcast outage. It eventually came back, but the random hiccups continued. It then went out for most of the day again a few days later.
2) The noise coming from Cheba Hut. The listing says that you are in a city and should expect city noises; I have lived in a cities the last 15+ years, but this was not city noises. The wall where the bed is, is shared with the Cheba Hut. At first it wasn't too bad, I could hear the music at night but with earplugs and white noise I could sleep w/o issues, but about 2 weeks in it got noticeably louder after closing (12AM every night) to the point that even with ear plugs and white noise going, I would be woken up. I didnt realize it was Cheba Hut and brought it up with the landlord and we had several email communications about it, but it was never resolved.
Considering I didn't really have any issues the first 2 weeks, I might have just had bad luck the last 2 and even then I still recommend; I just thought it was important to point these out in my review.
