  • Joseph Winthrop Holley, born in 1874 to former slaves in Winnsboro, South Carolina, founded the institution in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. W. E. B. Du Bois inspired Holley to return to the South after he read Du Bois's writings on the plight of Albany's blacks in The Souls of Black Folk. Holley relocated to Albany to start a school. With the help of a $2,600 gift from the Hazard family, Holley organized a board of trustees and purchased 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land for the campus, all within a year. The aim of the institution at the time was to provide elementary education and teacher training for the local Black population. It was turned over to the state of Georgia in 1917 as Georgia Normal and Agricultural College, a two-year agricultural and teacher-training institution. In 1932, the school became part of the University System of Georgia and in 1943 it was granted four-year status and renamed Albany State College. The transition to four-year status heavily increased the school's enrollment. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program, a prelude to the school being upgraded to university status in 1996.

Albany GA extended stay

Very professional and cooperative office staff. The rooms are comfortable with stove, refrigerator and bed. Bathroom door had issues as well as the main door. Main door had to be lifted to get to close, the bathroom door seemed loise so i didnt even move it, just left open. Overall a good low price place to stay.

Felt like I was in prison! Also they have a bug problem bad, also they should note that there's no smoking on grounds. I felt like I was a little girl all over again, in a real bad dream. I hurried up and got myself out that nasty as place of a room and bad communication with lack of real cleaning people. Its not for people who actually just needs to relax and want a nice place. Its a hole in the wall, and yes its cheap but it's not clean and it has to many rules and regulations for people who pay $ to be there for a week. Total project should be cheaper.

I had to leave due to my truck being hit and left damage out side of my room and yet in town could not at least give me refund of my 14 days left nor even offer me anything in exchange after my 2017 f250 was hit on there property 😡😡😡😡

I tried to leave early due to the bug infestation problem, but since I was not able to get compensated by the hotel, I decided to keep the key and check room periodically. I was able to do this because when my wife arrived a couple days later and she reserved a different hotel in which we stayed. I killed at least 10 roaches my room at Town Inn maybe more. For the life of me, I did not know where they were coming from but seeing one on inside of shower curtain, my bed, on my clean paper towels and tracks on the refrigerator hinge was enough for me. I hate that I had to keep the room as a possible back up. I’ve never asked this before but I would really be grateful if Expedia could somehow help me erase some of that bill off of my card.
