Hôtel du Lion d'or

Hôtel du Lion d'or

10/10 Excellent
"We had a few problems on arrival as the road to the hotel had been temporarily closed. The lady on reception was extremely helpful and helped us to negotiate a different route. Our room was a double when we had booked a twin but that was also quickly resolved and we were given a very nice room with two double beds. The facilities in the room were perfect and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. On Sunday, there was a market directly outside the hotel, which we enjoyed wandering through. It is a lovely town in a beautiful area. The staff were so kind and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ajou?
The best area to stay in Ajou, for those seeking quality and convenience, is the village centre itself.

The village centre is the heart of Ajou, offering a charming, relaxed base for your stay. It's characterised by its traditional Norman architecture, with a main square that often hosts local markets. You'll find a selection of local shops, a bakery, and a couple of welcoming local eateries. The church, a prominent landmark, is usually at the centre of the village layout.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find the village centre ideal. It provides a quiet setting for romantic strolls and easy access to local produce for a home-cooked meal. Many accommodations here are renovated farmhouses or guesthouses, offering a personal touch and a chance to experience authentic village life.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, but still within a short driving distance, often provides more space and privacy. Many gîtes or holiday homes in the surrounding countryside offer larger gardens and sometimes even private pools, which are superb for children to enjoy.
When is the best time to go to Ajou?
The best time to visit Ajou is during the late spring and early autumn, specifically from May to June and September to early October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for exploring the region's historical sites and natural beauty. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions like the Château d'Ajou. The countryside is particularly beautiful during these times, with blooming flora in spring and autumnal colours in early autumn.

Summer, from July to August, is also a popular time, especially for families. The weather is typically warm and sunny, superb for outdoor activities and enjoying the local markets. However, this is also the busiest period, so you can expect more visitors and potentially higher prices for accommodation. Many local festivals and events take place during these months, offering a lively option.
