The Blue Door | Luxe Heritage 2BR Cottage in CBD

Summary:
Renovated in 2019, The Blue Door is a stunning 1880's heritage listed row cottage in a quiet cul-de-sac in CBD west. The two bedrooms sleep four in 2x queen beds. The generous sunlit rear extension opens on to a private deck with bbq and communal garden. Conveniently located just off Gouger Street, it is only a short stroll to Adelaide’s finest restaurants, cafes, bars and also the Central Market. Adelaide Oval, Festival Centre, the RAH, SAHMRI and UniSA within easy reach.

The Space:
Welcome to “The Blue Door” cottage, where you can comfortably explore the city at your own pace, and relax within the walls of these historic character features mixed with modern style and ammenities.

The chic exterior of the cottage with its picket fence and its own piece of street art gives a hint of the beauty that lies within. Sit out on the front porch and chat with the locals and marvel at the little slice of historic Adelaide that surrounds you.

The gorgeous Tiffany blue door heralds the entrance to a stunning interior with polished baltic floorboards, character features and quality furnishings throughout.

The light filled front bedroom retains an original fireplace and looks out onto the porch through white timber shutters. The queen bed with quality linen can be split into two singles for added versatility (fee applies). A wall mounted TV in this room enables you to snuggle in bed and watch your favourite programs. There is ample hanging and storage space for your clothing.

Down the hall, the second bedroom opens onto a beautifully restored internal courtyard which can be accessed through french doors. The courtyard features black and white tiles and a restored sandstone wall. This bedroom also has a queen bed which can be converted to two singles and a desk.

The cottage has ducted heating and cooling throughout and both bedrooms have ceiling fans.

Further down the hall is the bathroom and laundry decorated with black and white tiles and stylish plywood features. The sandstone wall is beautifully highlighted through a multi panelled window. There is a shower, toilet and vanity with stone basin. A hair dryer is also supplied along with body wash and other toiletries. The bathroom also contains a washer/dryer.

At the end of the hallway is the architecturally designed, light filled extension. This open plan room contains the lounge, kitchen and dining areas.
There is a comfortable sofa and ottoman with throws and an eclectic collection of cushions. From here you can watch the large wall mounted TV. There is also a speaker which you can connect to. Wifi and Netflix are both provided.

The kitchen has everything you need including electric underbench stove, induction cooktop, microwave, coffee machine and dishwasher drawer. There is ample crockery, cutlery and cookware. The timber topped island bench brilliantly doubles as a table which seats 8 or more and can be rolled to other positions in the room or outside on the deck for a sunny afternoon lunch.

Glass sliding doors at the rear of the house open up to the private rear deck which is dominated by a magnificent tree. A hooded gas BBQ is provided.

Beyond the private deck via a locked gate is a shady communal garden with vegetables, fruit trees and beehive which is lovingly cared for by the residents of the street.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire cottage, including private patio and a cute communal garden out the very back.

The Neighborhood:
The cottage is on the western side of the CBD, just off Gouger Street.

Getting Around:
There is no onsite parking, however, guests have use of a vehicle parking permit which allows them to park for free in a designated area. There are a few parks right outside the cottage, and in the connected main street. The Glenelg tram and buses are close by and there is a network of electric scooters and bikes available for use around the city. A bike track connecting the city with glenelg and other beachside suburbs is only metres away.

Other Things to Note:
It is extremely important to look after and remember to leave the parking permit in the cottage on departure for other guests, as it is not replaceable easily. If lost of not returned, a charge of $300 will be applicable (which is the cost the council charge to replace it).

**NOTE: The standard bedding is 2x Queen beds as advertised. We can make up the second bedroom as 2x singles upon request (time permitting) and changes to this bed setup includes an additional fee of $40.

Bad.
Never seen service like this. Handbook notes the keypad lock sometimes doesn't work – Locked us out late. Host emails excessively and unavaible by phone. Inflated charges were sought after the stay. Listings should be required to disclose short-stay management firm. Will be staying clear of HelloHost.

Great location for enjoying the city.
The house was great. Excellent air con, comfy beds, good kitchen. The location was excellent, close to central market and great restaurants. I am glad we didn't have a car because parking was scarce and squeezy. Adelaide is a fabulous city especially while there is a festival happening.

Wonderful, historic property.
A lovely period cottage within walking distance of the centre of Adelaide. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen and all the rooms are very comfortable. The cottage is in a cul-de-sac so the neighbourhood is quiet.

This is such a great place to stay close to the Markets and China Town a foodies delight. Walking distance to most things and easy access to trams and trains. Home from home everything you need to enjoy your stay is already there and with the markets 5 minutes walk away you can shop to your hearts content. Loved our stay all 4 adults plenty of room and always managed to get a park close by if not right outside the house. Will definitely be back

Great place and location
Check in was for 2:30 pm. We couldn’t get in till 4pm as previous occupants were late in leaving and then had to be cleaned. The price of cleaning was exorbitant. We seemed to working for the property manager! They didn’t know we were late getting in, and when told then checked we were telling the truth. Would have thought the cleaner would have told them. Apparently you have to get permission to depart late so why didn’t the property manger know? No phone calls everything had to be done by email. Somewhat tedious going back and forth never know whom you would get next, sometimes explaining the same thing over again because someone different answered. The parking permit expired which again was us informing them and had to renewed. Then it was by chance if we could get parking in the street even though they kept saying there was a parking bay for us was on the street. The bathroom sink drain was blocked. The property manager wanted us to spend time checking instead of coming or sending someone out to attend immediately. Again doubting if we were telling the truth. Of coarse when someone did come it was well and truly blocked with a handful of hair etc. Tradesmen there for some hours was discreet and friendly but really who wants a tradesmen there while you are meant to be on holiday. There was not enough toilet paper they gave us only 3 rolls between 4 people for 7 days…they refused to give us any more so went out and bought more. Not all products were replenished which they stated were not on the list even though the products were all part of the same product range. Then they sent a departure email with a lengthy list on what l had to do before leaving. Can you believe they wanted us to empty all bins and then replace with new bags. Strange l would have thought that was part of cleaning a place. Think l will give STAYZ a miss in the future Stead there was park

Adelaide Gem
We loved our stay at The Blue Door and will hopefully return again next year! The location is quiet, yet just a couple of easy walking blocks to another Adelaide gem, Central Market. From there, free public transport takes you to Rundle Mall, North Terrace, Art Gallery State Library etc. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated, full of natural light and we especially appreciated the hand curated Adelaide art and culture tributes. It had everything we needed for our Adelaide return stay!

Better than home.
A lovely property, stylish, comfortable, well equipped and central. Up there with the best we have stayed in. Even has the shopping trolley so you can take the short walk to the Central Market to pick up some supplies.
