“Wonderful hotel right in the old part of Avignon”

We arrived late on the TGV after a very long flight but hotel staff were extremely helpful and made us feel welcome. There was free wifi so we were able to email home to let them know we had arrived safely. The room was not all that big (though quite good for France) but had all the necessary comforts. The dining room was lovely and breakfast was good. We only stayed overnight but overall a very good experience and I would recommend to others.

“Old world charm”

We stayed here for a night, wishing we had spent two to explore more of this wonderful place. We had a large-ish room (deluxe room) by overall standards, comfortable king bed, and a room overlooking the courtyard. The staff are very helpful and service is excellent. The bathroom was large and spacious, and great for dressing up. The hotel is old, and the overall feel is one of history and charm. Some of the decor looks it too, but this is still a lovely place to set forth from in touring this area.

Dining
Les 5 sens was expensive but a very good dining experience for us.

“Best hotel in Avignon”

This hotel made our vacation perfect. It had charm, history, class, and location. The hotel was friendly, courteous, helpful and beautiful. All this at a reasonable price. Definitely a recommend to others. We loved it.

Area recommendations
The hotel is located within the city walls. Any part of the city within the walls is charming.
Getting there
Take the train which stops at Avignon. We traveled from Cannes to Avgnon at a reasonable rate
Must see
Avignon is a must see town. One of the tour items is the Palace of the Popes, but the beauty of the town supports seeing it on any tour of France.
Dining
There are many restaurants in Avignon and two of our favorites were Brigadier and La Frochette. The hotel de Europe has a restaurant but we were unable to try it.

“Aabsolute best hotel I have ever stayed in”

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. Great location and the best room that I have ever stayed in. The hotel is a picture, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the amenities in the room great & comfortable and the rooms beautifully fitted out with beautiful antique furniture, as were the lift lobbies and the hotel lobby. There was free internet and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I would definitely not go anywhere but this hotel if I go to Avignon again. I even oone of the bath robes to take home as they were so nice.

Area recommendations
We loved the Place Crillon and the Restaurant Crillon - great food at good prices. The Pont St Benezet is definitely worth a visit - very interesting. We also did day trips to Arles & Aix-en Provence - again worth the visit

“Amazing stay in Avignon!”

Beautiful, historic hotel right in the heart of Avignon. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were beautifully decorated and bathrooms were large for Europe's standards. The hotel has a gorgeous courtyard where one can dine or relax with a beverage at the end of the day. Would definitely stay here again.

“Fantastic Hotel Near Everything”

This hotel was fantastic. Getting to it from the TGV, driving, was easy as it is just inside the Porte De L'Oulle arch about 100 feet right next to Place Crillon a typically pleasant French square. We were in room 123. This is noted because this room is across the hotel's courtyard from the main entrance and is entered up a few steps to the door right from the courtyard. It is the only room so situated and once in the outside door the room door itself is up a few steps more. It was like living in your own private residence. The room was large, with a bed area and a sitting area, ample closet space and a spacious and modern bath with shower and tub. We did not eat at the hotel, though it is highly rated and the menu looked very good, because we prefer going out. The staff was excellent. The best thing about the hotel was the location. Our car was delivered within 5 minutes of asking for it and getting out of town was a simple drive around the block and out the porte. For Avignon itself, everything was within walking distance, less than 5 minutes from the hotel. We would not hesitate to recommend the hotel, and especially room 123.

“Best hotel in Avignon”

We recently spent 6 nights at this great little hotel with a quiet courtyard and peaceful rooms. Breakfasts (we had ala carte) were outsrtanding. Staff were friendly and efficient. I would highly reccommend this hotel in all respects.

Area recommendations
I reccommed the Place Crillon in which this hotel is located. It is close to the Palace du Popes and is close to highways which exit Avignon.
When to go
Late May/early June when wheather is fine, but numbers of tourists is still low.

“Would enjoy staying again!”

We seriously read the reviews of different hotels in Avignon and even though Hotel D Europe was a little more expensive than others we chose it. And we are glad we did. It was in a relaxed and lovely neighborhood with restaurants in the square, a bakery nearby and cokes/water or coffee just across the street. The hotel ofcourse has a beautiful breakfast buffet, restaurant, and a cosy bar with international newspapers. It is full of antiques and Provencal charm. Very convient for visiting the Pope's Palace and the famous bridge. Easy walking to great shops, restaurants, and the main sites. The bathroom was all marble and white tile and the bedroom neat and bed comfortable. We stayed in one of the least expensive rooms with one window and a shower/tub. Every room has a specific price according to its advantages, i.e. two windows, sparate WC, etc. We stayed in balmy October, other guests wanted heat but we had the heat off and the window open. We asked for a fan and very quickly had a floor fan connected in front of the window. The service was great! The front desk was helpful in arranging tours and recommending restaurants. Would love to go back.

Area recommendations
For a home base, we would recommend staying in the area of Hotel D Europe, or near the Pope's Palace but not in the busy square off the Palace. The main street is also too noisy if one likes to sleep a little later in the morning.
Traveller's tip
Use Avignon as a base and take advantage of the tours such as the Artist tour to Arles and Van Gough's area, or the wine tours. Autumn is a great time for a visit.

“Marvelous Hotel!!!”

This is an elegant small hotel with a superb front desk staff. The service was flawless start to finish. Breakfast in the elegant dining room was such a delight--everything was perfect and available at our fingertips. The desk staff made all restaurant reservations--and what superb recommendations they were! This is truly one of the leading small hotels of Europe, reminiscent of the Aldrovandi Palace in Rome.B
