“Great location near center of town”
A short 2 block walk to town, and also one block from the train station for day trips to surrounding cities. Very nice, clean, comfortable. Hotel room also had a sitting room next to the bedroom.
“Beautiful”
Great clean hotel, and great location. Would stay there again. Was outside the gates of the city but that was no problem.
“Gd Money to Spend”
Spacious Room, Comfort Stay... Love here so much!!
“A Good Base for Seeing Avignon”
The Avignon Grand Hotel is very well situated. It is on the main road just outside the Avignon city walls and one block away from the entrance to the main restaurant and shopping street of Avignon. It is also one block from the main train station (The TGV station is outside town.) If you are taking a river cruise, it is also a short cab ride to the quay. We were pleasantly surprised to be given a suite -- a real one with closing door. It was large, airy and quite well appointed. An excellent breakfast buffet is available but it is not included in the room rate and is quite expensive. The lobby is large and attractive with a big bar and seating area. All in all, a pleasant introduction to Provence and return to France.
“Lovely Hotel”
Our rooms (small suite) and the hotel lobby were wonderfully spacious, clean and reflected the character of the city. The breakfasts were excellent - lots of choices. Great location as it is less than a block away from the railway station and a few blocks to the historic center. This hotel is a perfect place to use as the central point to then take day trips to the many cities and sites around Avignon. Unfortunately my husband had hurt himself so it wasn't that easy for us to walk and the staff was not particularly helpful with bus info, but I would definitely go back.
“Poor Choice In Avignon”
This hotel has many possibilities - the lobby is spacious and comfortable, free wi-fi, pleasant staff and very large rooms. Our room had a separate sitting area, a very large bedroom and a decent sized bath. All the plumbing fixtures were new and clean. Unfortunately the carpets were filthy - huge spots that your shoes actually stuck to! - and the bedding was terrible. The two double beds looked like cots from summer camp and the linens were worn and had holes in them. I had a back ache the next day. I'm not sure if it was just our room - we left after one night even though we had paid for two. Perhaps we should have complained.
“Very good lokation convenient to the center and right to the train station. We enjoyed the pool.”
Hotel has a cosy atmosphere. Very good location. You can leave the car in the garage and walk to the center. The pool is small, but perfect for relaxing before exploring Avignon in the evening. Would definitely go back to visit.
“Convenient Gateway o the Old City”
Booked into this hotel after none of my first choices within the walled city were available. It was conveniently located next to the train station and just outside of the walls. The main stretch of cafes and restaurants was minutes away. It is a very big hotel and our room was at the very end of a long corridor. If you are able to speak with someone in advance of arriving, request a room close to the elevator. Room was clean and spacious and there was a small pool on the roof. We had no wireless in our room but there was free access in the main lobby area. Overall, a very pleasant stay and a nice escape from the Festival insanity behind the walls.
“decent quality--try sister hotel instead”
After getting them to offer us a suite instead of the musty room for our sons, the service was good. The suite was nice but not amazing; clean but the materials and finishes are mid-quality only. The front desk staff were helpful with directions, etc. We also stayed in the Grand's sister hotel, Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis, on the same trip and we all preferred it. The Grand is next to the train station (Gare Centre, not the TGV station) and outside the old city walls. Le Cloitre is inside the city walls and quiet; the rooms are small but the hotel has nicer character than the Grand.
“Very good hotel!”
Very comfortable, clean, and nice service. It's also near train station and bus station, very convenient for travelers by train.
