“Set amongst the trees”

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and each had our own balcony facing out onto tree lined Fitzroy St - wonderful to wake up open the doors and hear the birds! Excellent location if you want a foodie experience and very short taxi ride to most places. Friendly accomodating service - everything you needed in the large apartment - will definitely stay again.

“Would definately use again”

Clean and well maintained, well equipped and perfect for those wanting to cook in the comfort of their own apartment. Would use again for stays longer than a few days.

“Cheap makeover with average service makes this an overpriced hotel”

Nothing special about this place. Cheap knock offs of designer furniture and a lick of paint doesn’t really disguise that this is an overpriced hotel that has only one good thing going for it - its location. The bed was rock hard, the pillows like flat pancakes and the sheets like sandpaper. The staff make you feel like you’re intruding every time you walk into the place. It has a 10am Sunday check-out and, when asked if we could check out a little later as one of us was ill, they very graciously offered us a 10:30am checkout. Now, there’s customer service for you! If this hotel was half the price it currently is, it would be about the right value for what you get. As it is, it feels like an overpriced motel ni a nice suburb. Even though the location is good, I’d rather stay at a big hotel in the city where the little things are done much better.

“Great hotel, great location”

Stayed here while finding more permanent accommodation. Great spot to get my feet wet. Close to everything. Gym could have been better, but it was a good temporary solution.

“truly home away from home”

i love the adina! i knew the room would have a kitchen with stove, refrigerator & sink; but i had no idea it would include an oven, dish washer, pots, pans, drinkware and cutlery. the appliances were stainless steel and well maintained. the room also included a washer & dryer in the bathroom. the living area and bedroom were both spacious and well decorated. i didn't get a chance to check out the gym, but that's because the neighborhood offered too many options. there's a saturday morning flea market held a block away. bill's restaurant is located downstairs. he's a world famous chef with the best breakfast's EVER! the coffee shop at the end of the block has the best blt i've ever had. about six blocks up is oxford street. AWESOME bars! i'm coming back in december and the adina is the only option to ensure my sanity and comfort.

surry hills is the prime location - it's not to far from the center of action, yet far enough to get a true slice of aussie life. i literally walked from the opera house back to the hotel. granted, my sydneysider friend tricked me into walking back to the hotel, but once we arrived (about a 20-30 minute walk), i was actually surprised by how close it was. the next day, i walked to the sydney tower from my hotel in surry hills. totally within walking distance of oxford street--one of the most vibrant places in the world, hands down! it's just a really cool vibe in surry hills. reminds me of any hip american college town. lots of pubs and really good restaurants. i'm totally staying there again in december.

When to go

the last week of may/first week of june. it's their winter but feels like our indian summer. plus it's considerably less expensive. unless you're into hanging at the beaches all day, then you'd need to go during december-february period. honestly, anytime is a great time in sydney.

Getting around

walk, taxi or take public transportation. the cab ride from newtown to sydney was approximately 20bucks (which my aussie friend thought was a bit expensive--don't come to the US then). my first ride on the subway system to the ferry dock went pretty smooth, but my friend was with me. i got lost on my solo subway ride (but it was totally my fault for selecting the wrong train). i'd say i walked a great majority of the time. in fact, i actually lost some lb's while i was there. how could it get any better?

Family-friendly activities

taronga zoo. it is a must for families. i went solo and had the time of my life, but there were several families with small children who were allowed to pet the safer animals. it was one of the coolest experiences of my trip. that, and the sydney tower walk! amazing! i learned so much from the guide. got an awesome picture out of it. how many people can say they toured the outside of the sydney tower? okay, maybe a lot of folks, but now i can say i did it too.

“Best Location”

So good I want to say it's horrible so there will be vacancy for me again! Great for singles, couples or families. Bill's restaurant down stairs is affordable and wonderful. My friends and I had a fantastic time!
