“Better than the star rating would indicate”
This was one of the better hotels we stayed at in Italy. While not a 5-star hotel, for a European hotel, we found the decor, cleanliness, location and service of staff were really nice. I wouldn't rush to eat dinner there, but go out into the main square for better dining and an active area.
“Great location”
The hotel is slightly outside the city centre, so noise is not a problem at all, but is close (4 minutes walk) to the train station. So, if you are arriving by train, you won't need a taxi, just walk straight down towards the water. A 5 minute walk to the city centre meant easy access to restaurants. Didn't try the hotel restaurant for dinner (too many other options in Sorrento), but the breakfast was excellent - lots of variety of both hot and cold foods - including an egg/omelette bar. Sorrento is the jumping off point for many of the attractions on the Amalfi Coast: catamaran to Capri, boat or bus to Positano/Amalfi. The location of this hotel made it easy to access the boats/buses with a 5-10 minute walk. We were glad we had chosen this hotel, rather than one outside the city on the cliffs, or in Positano - it would have been much more difficult in these circumstances to do the tourist thing without relying on taxis.
“Very Pleased”
Very pleased with hotel location for centre of Sorrento. All staff very friendly and helpfull. Fantastic views,if you have a 'full sea view room'
“The most beautful hotel I have ever stayed in”
Great location, the best views of the bay. Happy, and willing to help staff. Large bed & bathrooms You must stay there !
“Phenomenal Spot.”
This Hotel is superb. Very clean, great location and very friendly staff. Make no mistake, you pay very well for the experience, but what a view. Just don't make the schoolboy error of staying here overlooking the road, it's like turning up to your friend's wedding late......you're stuck at the back, in front of a pillar, can't see a thing while feeling embarrassed. The pool's decepitively large and the cunning lift down through the rock to the decking, great for quieter sunbathing and a splash in the 'Med'. Breakfast is good but not spectacular and the location of the hotel ideal. According to the Travel journalist we met in Naples, The Royal is the 2nd best Hotel in Sorrento - after the hugley expensive haunt of Pavarotti, Minogue et al.
“Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento is a winner”
The Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento is a great find. The lobby and public areas are lovely, the service is wonderful and the view from the pool area is exquisite. We were extremely happy with our stay and would go back in a minute.
“Good Holiday”
It was really easy catching the bus to Sorrento and then finding the hotel, there are beautiful views of the volcano accross the bay. It was a good location and an easy walk into the town. There was lots of choice at breakfast and all the staff were efficient and helpful. The room was really comfortable and clean. I would recomend this hotel and we had a really relaxing holiday.
“although expensive, you get what you pay for and will be going back hopefully next year”
excellent, staff only too pleased to serve you, lovely location, must be recommended.
“Highly recommended I would definitely return to the Grand Hotel Royal”
This was an excellent choice of hotel for our visit. Perfectly situated in the centre of Sorrento, everything we needed was within easy reach. A short walk from the hotel was the local train and bus station making access to all attractions easy and cost effective. The hotel was only 5 mins walk form the centre of town with an excellent choice of restaurants and bars to enjoy. The town has a lovely atmosphere in the evening, with late night shopping enjoyable for those who want to spend a few euros! The hotel was excellent, with a full breakfast providing for all tastes and more than enough to last the day! The room over looked the pool, with a balcony. Great views over the sea to Naples and Capri. Very comfortable rooms and an excellent bathroom clean and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent decor throughtout. Very nice pool area to relax - Still cool in the evenings during the easter break, but a very pleasant 70-75 degrees during the day. Private beach area was not open as it was early in the season. We didn't eat in the restaurant at all during the week as we wanted to try local restaurants which were good. The menu however was good if a little pricy. The grounds were very attractive with lemon and palm trees. A great holiday but be prepared to walk everywhere and saviour the wonderful history and scenery. I would definitely like to return.
“Will return t this Hotel”
We were really pleased to stay at this Hotel. The staff were exceptional, particulary the waiters in the resturant. The position of the hotel is ideal being central and in very easy reach of the centre of Sorrento and the Bus/ railway station being very important on arrival and departure for the airport. Great view fom a room facing the bay of Naples - also quiet- worth paying for. The rooms at the front of the hotel might prove more noisey
