“Michelangelo 4*”
Took a gamble on the Michelangelo. Advertised as 4-star. Well it probably is, just, but it would've been right up there with the best 30 years ago. Pity is, although spotlessly clean, it feels dated. Nevertheless - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. (At times we were the only residents) The food was good. The location is great. The staff were super. We went out of season and got an excellent deal. There's several spas locally. The scenery is fantastic, there are lots of local restaurants. Town is a ten minute walk (down a steep hill - which is OK when you're 40 but would hesitate to recommend the walk to anyone elderly.) Locals are friendly.... Pity it isn't better served by other airports. We drove 120 miles down from Pisa. Nice drive though.

Area:
Val di Chiana, Italy: This region of forests and thermal spas takes its name from the River Chiana, a well-traversed waterway between Arezzo and Siena provinces. The once-malarial marshes have long been drained, leaving small lakes behind. Chiusi, an ancient Etruscan town, dominates the valley headwaters, while Montepulciano surveys the broad floodplain from its hilltop vantage point. Chianciano and San Casciano dei Bagni have therapeutic hot springs.
