“Great hotel..”
Great location, just needs WI-FI.
“Not at par with others in this hotel group”
Feb 2011- My wife and I stayed in Hotel Monterey Ginza in Tokyo, Hotel Monterey Kyoto, and finally Hotel Monterey Sapporo. The first two locations were superior. The staff in Tokyo and in Kyoto were excellent and very helpful, As novices to the Japanese language, their English skills made our stay very enjoyable and the properties themselves were excellent. Having established a high level of expectation, we were disappointed upon our arrival in Sapporo. The staff did speak English much more that we spoke Japanese, but the level of service and hospitality was not equal. The hotel itself is very old. While it is well maintained, the outdated facilities combined with our disappointment in the staff left us less than satisfied. The Hotel Monterey Group has another location in Sapporo, the Hotel Monterey Elendorf. I will try that location on our next visit.
“East stay next to JR Train station”
A quick walk from the JR station, this hotel had smaller rooms but okay for 2 people. It is close to shopping at the station and is perfect for a stop over on our way to ski in Niseko.
“One of the best Japanese hotel chain”
I knew that Monterey hotel is one of the famous Japanese hotel chains. It was my first time to stay Monterey, and it was great to choose! The location was extremly close to Sapporo station. Moreover, almost famous tourist spots were very close to the hotel.(It is walkable). I stayed Semi-double, but it was spacious enough for two people.
“Highly recommended”
This hotel is in the heart of Sapporo city, within a couple of blocks from the Sapporo train station. Very easy to get to, and also very easy to go to other places (including Sapporo beer garden) using public transportation or even walking. A large shopping center with good food court and many 24 hrs convenience stores are nearby, making the stay comfortable, The hotel itself is good enough, with very clean and comfortable room. But don't expect much in terms of facilities or neighborhood ambiance. No exercise gym, lobby, or other recreational facilities. However, high-speed internet (LAN) is free, and even the LAN cable is provided for free. Overall, if you want to stay at a nice, comfortable hotel from which you can explore many places, at a very good price, I would recommend this hotel very highly. If you wish to spend most of time at the hotel, no. One funny thing. This hotel has a very ornately decorated hall -- every day (and what seemed to be every hour) that I stayed there, the hall was always being used for a wedding ceremony.
“Wonderful Location and Friendly, Helpful Staff!!”
The hotel is very close to the Sapporo Station (about three blocks), so you can walk easily (if you are coming from Chitose Airport by train, it arrives at Sapporo Station). The staff was very friendly and helpful. Comfortable room. Parking in the garage below is 1,000 yen a night. You can easily walk to the downtown areas. If you plan to stay in Sapporo and ski, the best resort is Kiroro (about 90 minutes away by car or bus). Niseko and Rutsutsu, other fine ski resorts, are a little far for a day trip.
