“The Hotel is very old”

We found the hotel very old (in the pictures seems like a very nice hotel) and we were never told that the hotel was in restorarion. Nevertheless, the service was great and it is very good located, with an extraordinary view (one block from the beach, sea view).

“Loved San Sebastian”

We stayed at the Tryp Orly hotel in San Sebastian for 2 nights and wished it could have been more. The hotel is located a half block from the beach right in the middle of it all. A few minutes walk puts you in old town among the great buildings and restaurants to explore. The hotel bar was under construction, but our stay was very pleasant. The hotel is not impressive from the outside but the room was quite nice. It was clean modern and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was not included in the price but was half price by signing up with their free loyalty program. The city is beautiful. Perfect for walking along the boardwalk or renting bikes and enjoying the extensive trails provided.

Area recommendations
The city is not large. You can easily walk most places. We took a drive to the top of mount igueldo adjacent to the city and the views were outstanding. Exploring old town with the tapas bars and interesting bakeries and shops was a highlight. In the summer the beach iwould be a favorite hangout. In November it was a bit too cool for that.

“Great Hotel in San Sebastian, Spain”

The hotel was conveniently located within a 3 minute walk to Playa de la Conca and a 10 minute walk to the Old City. Very clean, very friendly staff.

“Great location”

The hotel staff and service was great. The hotel was always clean, friendly staff who we were able to communicate with, and a great location to be at in San Sebastian. Can't wait to go back!

Area recommendations
San Sebastian is a wonderful, beautiful and clean city! I would highly recommend going here. Excellent restaurants, good shopping and sight-seeing everywhere. We really enjoyed the Old Town. It has great shopping and walking distance from our hotel. Very family oriented city.

“Great location - good staff!”

Location is a stones throw from the beach. Always someone at the front desk that speaks english. Room was a bit small - no chest of drawers to put your stuff in. Friendly/helpful staff from reception (yea Maria!), housekeeping and attached restaurant/room service. Parking was obcenly expensive (rules say don't post numbers) - Manhattan parking rates. Interestingly - a first floor room is on the 8th floor - don't let the low number scare you about the view. Would recommend!

Area recommendations
Hotel in great neighborhood. Within one mile walk see it all. Many Tapas Bars etc - Leave the rental car home to avoid the parking charge.

“Solid Value”

Good service, good views, clean, roomy, good location. And one of the better breakfasts.

Dining
Maybe the best dinner, in two weeks of great eating in Spain was at the SKU2 Restaurant in the Antigua section of San Sabastian. We really liked the Gugenhiem in nearby Bilbao also.

“San Sebastian...great city”

San Sebastian is a wonderful city and over the years has gotten a bit too basque, but it's in the heart of that territory. The people at the hotel were extremely friendly...they spoke english as well as spanish (finding pure spanish/castellion is harder these days in Northern Spain). The city is beautiful and rich in history. I was my 5th trip there. The hotel was clean and well laid out. The rooms were very comfortable and had excellent bathrooms. The lobby was compact, but had a business center, cafe, and restaurant. The location was perfect. A block off the beach and in the city center between old and new. Most importantly it had blow ground parking because parking in San Sebastian is extremely hard. Easy to find w/a Blackberry and Goolge Maps off the Autopista.

Area recommendations
For San Sebastian you want to be with in walking distance of the beach and near the old section of town. So the center of the bay is a great location.
Getting around
The city is small, but you better like walking, but for that matter...Spain is a walking country. I was able to run the paseo (boardwalk) from tip to tip in 25min...it's probably 4 miles. The North has a marvelous park and old fort, but the climb up the park walkways is very steep. My mother w/two replaced hips made it up, but don't let that fool you she's very athletic for 74. It's a climb that w/b hard for most over 60, but beautiful views from up there next to the statue of Christ. The old city near and behind the docks is marvelous for eating and entertainment. We watch Spain win the world cup from a tapas bar in the old section...great fun. The paseo/boardwalk is a nice flat walkway around the harbor and above the beach...probably 4-5 mile walk. At the opposite side of the bay are some famous art scupltures and another park above, but w/a cable car. You can probably walk the whole city in 4-5 hrs...Spain is no place for anything but walking shoes. Women leave your fashions at home...this trip I went w/a 14 family members (we are American Spaniards)...the women w/their shoes...were constantly complaining. Old medevial streets and long distances.

“Great spot in San Sebastian”

The Trypp Orly was excellent and would highly recommend to anyone. Staff was freindly, courteous and helpful. The hotel was clean and the room was exquisite with views to the beach and bay below. Walking distance to the beach, restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, the aquarium (which was up there with the Monterey Bay Aquarium) and the old city. Tremendous value through Expedia.

Traveller's tip
Unbelievable beach, clean and warm...

“Not Impressed”

The hotel is in good location and was very clean - however it is not a 4 star hotel. The sheets have holes, the elevator doors were dirty looking. The hotel needs updating! Was disappointed since we thought we were going to stay at a 4 star hotel.

“A future repeat customer”

Location, location, location! The best part of this hotel was the proximity to the beach (practically across the street), the incredible view from our room of the gorgeous bay, and the cleanliness and charm of the place. Desk service was always friendly and helpful. Don't let pictures of the exterior fool you. The difference between the monolithic exterior (albeit made from elegant marble) and the intimate interior is night and day. Tryp Orly is a lovely hotel that probably was once the epitome of glamour back in the day, perhaps the 1930s or so based on its interior decor. But that's not to say this hotel is a 'has been' or run down. Quite the contrary. That is what adds to the mystery and charm of the place. You know that this hotel has had an interesting past. The Art Deco-ish decor of the lobby reminds me of the interior of buildings like NYC's Chrysler Building, (especially the old school phone booth and the ceiling of the elevator), and is delightful to walk into after a day out on the town. Our clean and tasteful room was the largest I've been in a while in Europe. Oh and did I mention the location and view? I will certainly be returning if I am lucky enough to visit San Sebastian again.
