Awesome Hotel, Restaurant Not So MuchPosted 22/08/2013
Pros: Pool, grounds, rooms, old world elegance.
Cons: Restaurant, both service and quality of food.
Location: Zoo Ave. is right across the street. It's about a 15 minute drive to the airport and the area is very quiet with many beautiful greenhouses.
We live in Costa Rica and always enjoy staying at the San Martino, especially when we are in or out of the airport. La Garita is a lovely area in Alajuela and so much more peaceful than staying in the city. Lately, however, we have found the dining room lacking both in service and quality of food, which is a shame.

General InfoPosted 11/08/2013
Cons: The sheets on the bed were very rough. For the resort type of hotel, the sheets need to be upgraded.
The hotel offers several activities but time was limited for us. Sheets on the bed need improvement for a resort atmosphere. Good hotel if you need to be near the airport and city. The fan running at night helped with the noise due to the tile flooring and wood doors. In the busy season, I would be concerned with the noise. Someone pounded on our door at 5 am and then went to the balcony to shine flashlight in windows and knocked again. We did not answer the call but it was disturbing.

Pleasantly Surprised!Posted 09/08/2013
A little hard to find, but worth the effort! Staff went out of their way to accommodate us! Beautiful setting and good restaurant! Easy to get to airport from here.

Always A Wonderful ExperiencePosted 22/07/2013
We live in Costa Rica and the San Martino is one of our favourite hotels in San Jose. It's convenient to the airport and the La Garita area of Alajuela is such a peaceful place, not what one usually expects in an airport hotel. The street is packed with beautiful greenhouses, Zoo Ave. is right across the road and it's a bird watchers' paradise. Staying at the San Martino is like going back in time to an old world hotel with modern conveniences. Hand carved polished wood abounds everywhere, the grounds are lovely the enormous swimming pool invites. The San Martino offers individual rooms with king size beds and fridges as well as private villas. There is a full service spa and the restaurant offers excellent cuisine, really I have no idea what more one could expect for the price!

Great stay at hotel martinoPosted 11/07/2013
This hotel was great, it's kinda secluded in alajuela but at the same time easy access to airport and San Jose. Service was great , it's like a resort style with privacy and quiet... Complementary breakfast was ok, all in all for the price u get a great stay ... My only problem was bathroom was small and shower space is small but shower was good ... I'd stay here again

Great Place!Posted 06/07/2013 on Hotels.com
We booked one night at Hotel Martino after flying in to San Jose and before heading to the coast. The grounds are beautiful and the pool amazing! We are excited to spend the last night of our trip there as well.
