“Great Stay!”
I stayed here at Novotel this past October. It was great. The staff was pleasant. They spoke perfect English (which was a huge plus). They had a computer corner with free internet which was helpful. The only thing I had an issue was getting there. My friend and I got lost trying to find it! We were walking from Hauptbahnof and it was really confusing for us to find it. Once we knew where the hotel was, getting to and from Hbf was not an issue. Other than that it was a nice walk from the center of town.
“Check if the WiFi is working first.”
The hotel itself was fine, not anything exciting. However, when we arrived and asked about WiFi, the lady kindly handed us instruction for connecting. So we went up to the room, began trying to connect, and after about 45 minutes of difficulty we called the front dear to ask about it and were then told that yes, the wireless doesn't work at all, that they are waiting for a new cable. So it was very frustrating that they don't let you know that ahead of time. I know that businesses use that hotel a lot, so I can image it has been frustrating to not be able to connect. I would first call the hotel before booking, if you need this service.
“Caution when buying non-refundable tickets”
Bought tickets on expedia which were non refundable. Wanted to change dates by one week and the hotel would not allow it, so I lost 3 nights. I was not happy and because if this will not give them my busuness again. No flexibility there from the hotel. Otherwise the location is good, with a 10-15 min walk to town. Spa facilities were closed for refurb, but no discount given. Wireless didn't work in the room.
“Great location”
This hotel is centrally located in Mainz with just a short walk down the wall to all of the local shops and restaurants. The hotel itself was fine, but nothing special. I asked for a double bed and they gave me two twins pushed together. The over-all comfort of the room was not great, the bed was very stiff and my AC did not work so it was quite hot and stuffy. No screens on the windows so when you open them up at night your room fills with bugs. The restaurant and spa were closed so we didn't get to try any of those facilities. The breakfast was good, but I've had better at other hotels in Mainz. My main issue was with the internet service. Being that I stayed there for business I needed to have frequent access to the internet. The wireless connection did not work in my room (it only worked in the lobby from what I could tell) and the plug-in connection was spotty at best. The service staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean.
“A Very Ordinary Hotel”
They position the hotel with 4 stars but it is anything from it. The rooms are barely passable for two stars and who ever head of paying 2.5 euro, per 15 minutes, in a 4 star hotel! Underneath the bedclothes was a very uncomfortable plastic sheeting, the air-conditioning hung from the roof and early every morning you hear the delivery trucks dropping off produce. Plus, a very expensive but basic buffet breakfast! Obviously, the star rating here is simply, pick a number! If you are desperate it's a clean, roof over your head solution but that's it.
“Good Stay for the Price”
Hotel was fine....nice quiet location....air conditioning was poor, room stayed rather muggy
“Very satisfied”
We used train from Frankfurt airport which was easy to do. We couldn't find a Taxi at train station so decided to walk but left using rear station exit and walked much further than needed. Use station main entrance exit, turn right across the bridge and up slight hill to the Hotel. Note the Hotel can't be seen until very close and signs mention other Hotel not Novotel which can be disconcerting. For Aussie's the breakfast area is run independantly so I found getting some Euro cash at Frankfurt airport very helpful in paying bills in cash like the Novotel dining area. The staff can speak english reasonably well and are very helpful in continuing your journey such as directions on how best to get to the canal boats etc.
“Great location, wonderful service”
This hotel is just a short walk from the main train station (albeit uphill), so very easy to walk to, even carrying luggage. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The room was as expected of Novotel - clean, modern, with all the expected facilities. Check-out was midday which made for a very easy morning. No noise problems, seems like a good surrounding area, and room service was prompt and courteous. Breakfast provided a fantastic variety of food and drinks. Highly recommended.
“GREAT breakfast!”
This was the best breakfast we had on our entire trip and it was included in the price of the room. Eggs, bacon, fresh breads, etc. all in a nice setting. This was a great deal! All we did was arrive late and leave early for the airport, but I would highly recommend this hotel. It's only a few minutes walk from the Mainz Main train station where you can catch a high speed train to Frankfurt Airport.
“Uphill From MainzTrain Station”
When I go from Seattle to Europe for pleasure, I like to give myself a couple days off to recover from the jet lag and I've found that the Mainz Novotel Hotel is a really good place to do just that. It's 20 minutes by train from FRA, and a 15 minute walk up from the main train station. The city of Mainz is walkable, safe, with good food, and its citizens are proud of their city. The room I had on this trip was a little smoky smelling, but that's my only complaint. I opened the window and lit a candle. The gym/sauna/pool are nice, the restaurant is expensive, but has a creative menu, the views from this perch in Mainz gives one a nice perspective of what there is to be seen in town, and St. Stephan's with its Chagall stained glass is a 5 minute walk.
