“Would love to Return”

Convenient location on the edge of Pattong, walking distance to the action, but very peacefully located with great views across the water. Facilities are excellent, but the site is large, so there is some walking (up steps) from the furthest most rooms to the loby. We hired a small motorbike (standard mode of transport for the locals), and this made going down the road into town very quick and easy. Local restaurants downtown, offer great food at very low prices.

Area recommendations

Boat trips to Phi Phi and James Bond Islands are recommended, but take a fast boat. We used a local travel agent in the Ocean View Bar, and got about a 50% discount on the advertised prices (during the off season first week October).

“Excellent hotel with great service”

I stayed at the Amari Coral Beach hotel in Phuket from 22nd to 29th September 2011 together with my family. The service level and friendliness of the staff in all areas of the hotel was excellent, as was the quality of the buffet breakfast which was included in the room rate. The hotel location is great as it is within walking distance of the central Patong area (20 min walk) and Patong beach but also far enough away to escape the noise and bustle of Patong when required. The only small downside is that the hotel does not provide a shuttle service into central Patong (many other Amari hotels have a shuttle service). If guests dont wish to walk they have to endure the grossly overpriced tuk-tuk touts waiting outside the hotel entrance

“Don't Stay Here”

We have been travelling around Thailand starting with Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and now Phi Phi Island. Our stay at Amari was the worst place I've ever stayed in all my travels and especially in comparison to stays around Thailand. I'm not sure how this hotel received 4 star rating, but they clearly spent all the money on the restaurants and lobby and not the hotel rooms. The rooms could use some spackle and even paint to make them more presentable. Bathroom was awkward and the air conditioning didn't work properly, walls were very thin and you could hear everthing. Restaurants were a hike down the hill from the room. Tuk Tuk rides down to Patong Beach and shopping were $200 baht each way which isn't a lot but it does add up...I would recommend staying somewhere more convenient for less $ such as Holiday Inn or there was also a very nice looking resort and spa down the hill as well. This resort was set-up like a motel as well. If I were expedia I wouldn't even allow people to book with this hotel. Staff were not nearly as friendly as the rest of Thailand people we've met.

“an impressive resort hotel”

the location is set in beautiful gardens over an extensive area with excellent views, which made it a perfect relaxing destination for a holiday. the meals, especially the buffet breakfast, were top class. we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Area recommendations

Always the Southern End of Phuket. Just quieter but never too far from the action if you want it. Always do the Island trips via speed boat (much faster to get there) they are beautiful. And canoeing is an experince not to be left out.

What to pack

Not too much! Its too hot for any tiight or heavy clothing. A couple of loose dresses, plenty of bathers, a few sarongs, thongs a pair of sandles and runners if you intend walking or going to the gym. No cardigans or Jackets. Leave room in your suitcase for the extra t-shirts, bags etc that you buy. If you forget anything you can buy it there. Its not a dressy place so leave the high heels and glitzy dresses behind. Plenty of suncreen of course and a hat. Mozzie repellent (although only bitten once) Dont forget the camera Phuket is beautiful. Ipod and your book for relaxing by the pool. Zip ties or locks for your luggage. Better be safe than sorry.

“Perfect oasis from Patong beach”

The Amari is stylish, modern and relaxed. It is a perfect 10 minute walk from the action of Patong town. It's lovely and peacful and has many areas to escape the crowds. Definitely recommend staying there!

“Large, crowded hotel, mediocre service, and unacceptable business ethics”

We checked into the Amari Coral Phuket for the final leg of our Thailand trip, expecting beachfront romance. Well, first of all, there's no beach. Rocks, but no beach. Second of all the hotel is huge, and overrun by tourists, and feels very impersonal (and is in Patong, which is commercialized and Daytona-esque, not exactly what we were looking for). And not very romantic. You have to pay an exorbitant amount for internet, which is not even available in the rooms - you have to use one of the three computers in their gift shop. And when we decided to go elsewhere, we politely inquired about the cancellation/alteration policy two days before we planned to leave - management assured us that we would not be charged an additional night provided we gave 24 hours notice of our departure. Well, we gave appropriate notice, and they charged us an extra night anyway! At that point, we were too exasperated to fight with hotel management, so we just left. But overall, a VERY disappointing experience.

Area recommendations

Kata beach - more relaxed, less commercialized, and slightly less crowded than Patong. And a very nice beach!

“A quiet retreat minutes from mayhem!”

Staff at the Amari was very helpful, language was not a problem .The rooms were very nice with ocean views. We have stayed with Amari before but not at Patong Beach. The layout was very nice but someone with difficulty with stairs may experience some difficulty. The location is great, about a 10 min walk from the usual Patong bustle. We would definitly stay at the Coral Beach again.

Area recommendations

The side streets and allys off the main beach drive are full of great restaurants worth sampling. The taxi fares seem universal in Patong Beach. 200 baht, no matter where you go. The Fanta- Sea production was a worthwhile experience, just allow extra time to see everything.
