“A Must-Stay in Umbria”
Hotel sits upon a hill overlooking acres of olive grove and vineyards. On clear days, You can see Perugia and Assisi. Hotel staff were friendly (and bilingual) and ready to accommodate. The hotel restaurant is very nice, but dinner hours are limited (7:30-9:30 pm). We selected the half-board option which provides one lunch or dinner per day. Since we spent the day traveling, the $25 Euro dinner worked best for us. The wine list is very comprehensive. May I suggest the Umbria classic, a 2001 Sagratino by Avanti. The gourmet food was simply 5-star. All freash ingredients came from the Poggio or nearby farms. Breakfast buffet is available for $8 Euro. Our family of 4 enjoyed the duplex-apartment just down the hill from Reception/ Restaurant. There are plenty of acres to walk while admiring the olive grove, the commanding views and other farm residents, namely pigs, horses and goats. Guests are 20 mins from Assisi and 10 mins from Torgiano, a small town with terrific restaurants and vineyards. The town of Bettona sits high, along a winding road. Caution: The road around the walled town is single lane. We successfully made the trip in a mid-size SUV and found little difficulty navigating often small, dirt roads. Buy a bottle of the Poggio's own olive oil. It is absolutely delicious! We are planning a return trip in Spring 2008. More to Follow...
“Hilltop Palatial Estate”
My son and I stayed at Agriturismo Poggio Degli Olivi for two days in June 2008. We expected much less for the price. There was good signage to find it. We had a well-built little cottage of our own with a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, with a rustic beamed ceiling, insulated windows, tastefully decorated with a lovely landscaped yard. It was completely quiet except for the sounds of hundreds of birds chirping, especially in the morning. Near the stone villa which is the reception area, lounge and restaurant area is a large swimming pool and tennis court. The grounds themselves are tastefully landscaped, and there are trails and other roads one can hike on. The estate is on a hilltop surrounded by acres of olive orchards and views for miles around. They have a wonderful restaurant (Had stuffed guinea fowl on a bed of peas, and homemade gnocchi with black truffles in the sauce.) The staff spoke English and was polite. Be aware to check in before 7 PM. On this vacation, we traveled all the way from Milan on down "the boot" and this place was a highlight of our trip.
“second visit--just as good as the first”
excellent position in the hills overlooking Assisi -very good staff--excellent facilities--goood restaurant--very reasonable price--highly recommended.
“Gorgeous agriturisma”
Our stay was a near disaster. We booked an apartment thinking we would be able to cook some of the local fresh ingredients. The facilities are really not up to any cooking but the real problem is with the hot water heater. The room was cold (in April) & the system for the heat & hot water are connected. There was only enough hot water for one person to shower and the shower itself is incredibly tiny. We attempted to cancel our remaining nights but instead were offered one of the hotel rooms for a little increase in the price. The difference was amazing: a beautiful, comfortable room with a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. It was spacious & comfortable & we could walk to the reception hall/dining room rather than drive the distance from the apartment we'd started with. The staff is very helpful & we were pleased with our restaurant experience. The location is very convenient but know that you must have a car. Spoleto, Deruta, Assisi, Peruggia, & Lago Trasimeno are a short ride away. Cortona just a little more. The grounds are beautiful and one can sit outdoors in the evening & enjoy a spectacular view across the valley with Assisi shining in the distance and the birds chirping away with an occassional deer walking by. A truly lovely place we would return to if we were in the area once again but only to the hotel part, not the apartments.
“A real find in Umbria: excellent value”
Awe-inspiring views from he top of this hill overlooking the Valle d'Umbra. Hotel is relatively new, and has a lovely swimming pool. The restaurant is quite good. This hotel would made an excellent base of operations from which to explore Umbria and southern and eastern parts of Tuscany. it is fairly near the main highways. I would be difficult to find this in the dark, although there are numerous signs pointing the way. It is near the town of Bettona, but if you go into the medieval city itself, you're headed in the wrong direction. The room's jacuzzi did not work and a bolt was missing from the toilet seat, but when I pointd this out to the management, these were fixed that day. The extra charge for breakfast was a surprise.
“Great place to unwind”
This was a very nice hotel, and I think in the summer, when the pool would be open, it must be even better. The view of Assisi at night is awesome. My only two problems were that it was l5 miles outside of Assisi, which made it difficult for myself and my traveling partner, since we were travelling via Eurorail. This hotel is only accessible by auto. The other problem was a language one. We are english speaking, with a very little Italian, and most of the hotel staff had no knowledge of English.
“Lovely views”
Enjoyed our stay - the views across to Asissi are wonderful. Pool large, restaurant good, rooms nicely decorated.
“Great place to be”
Its beautiful location and the excellent food makes this Hotel a perfect stay in the region. The place is located on top of a hill, with a marvelous view to Perugia and Assisi, which we enjoyed from the terrace when having a marvelous dinner or at the delectable breakfast. The people at the Hotel offered us the kindest service in the Italian way. Rooms can be a bit cleaner tough, since the carpets are always dusty.
“Charming Umbrian country hotel”
Lovely, well appointed, family run hotel on top of a hill overlooking Umbrian agricultural countryside. Weather was cold and wet when we were there but would be an especially great setting in hot season. Good location for outings to places like Assisi and other small hill towns in the area, but definitely need a car to stay there. Charming and helpful staff. Excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast at unexpected extra cost.
“Not that impressed.”
This hotel was incredibly difficult to locate.Beautiful looking accom from the outside and not so bad on the inside but beds were as hard as a rock and pillows very thin. Pull out couch not made up and no sheets/blankets left out to make up. Only provided 2 towels in each room (booked 2 rooms)despite 3 and 4 people booked and paid for in rooms.Had to contact reception to turn hot water onto one of rooms. Cold rooms. No screens but mosquito's around. Some lights not working.Shower so tiny, very difficult to get in and out of,even for a small person.Staff not overly friendly or informative.Meals in restaurant expensive.Breakfast not open til 8.30am and dinner not open til 7.30pm (not very convenient for families or travellers wishing to get an early start).
