“Wonderful Hotel Centrally Located.”
The Bourgogne Et Montana is a wonderful estabishment. It is in the heart of Paris, in the 7th District. The National Assembly is right across the street and the Seine River is just 1 block away. Whether you want to take Metro (just 2 blocks away) or walk the streets of Paris (we felt very safe everywhere we went), the hotel is convenient to all the tourist attractions. We chose to walk and had a wonderful time.
The hotel was nicely appointed, rooms were comfortable and actually more spacious than I had anticipated. They have a breakfast buffet, however we chose to walk to the local cafe's for breakfast (a little easier on the wallet). My only negative comment was the elevator was very small, I mean really small!!! One person and a piece of medium sized luggage max or two people very close to one and other! Something that has been there for a long time. The spiral staircase was an option, but if you are on the upper floors, can give you a nice work out. It wasjust another Paris adventure...!
Area recommendations
Paris is laid out with a set of districts that circle the center of the city, outward. It can be a little confusing, but does actually make sense once you figure it out. Most of the things to see are all within walking distance from the hotel, which is in the 7th District. Alternatively use Metro within town, or if you want to see Versailles use the RER. RER Station is within easy walking distance from the hotel.
Latin Quarter. Don't miss it. Lots of interesting shops, restaurants and cafes. Yes there is a fair share of tourist shops also, but you never know what you might find there.
Eiffel tower is a must.
The Louvre and D'Orsay Museum are musts. As a Parisian whom I talked to one night advised me, "do not try to see the entire Louve and one visit, experience the Louve, feel the Louve, let the Louve become a part of you." Though one might be able to walk the museum in a day, it would be impossible for fully appreciate all the art and artifacts. After 3 hours, my senses were saturated.
Enjoy an evening sitting at one of the outdoor cafes. Unlike in the States where you are expected to order, eat and leave for the next party to do the same, in Paris you table is yours for the evening. Enjoy a nice drink, sit and talk, watch the street scene go by, enjoy dinner, after dinner drinks and sit and talk some more. What a great way to spend an evening out...
