“Basic high end comfort”
The rooms aren't big but they have very nice beds and sheets. There is a hopping night scene on the top floor bar. It's convenient to a lot of things but the street it's on feels a bit forlorn what with it's THREE adult book stores in the same block as the hotel
“Good Service, but construction next door.”
The location of this hotel is very good - walking distance to everything and the service was excellent. However, they are constructing a new building next door and the noise is quite obnoxious. I would certainly recommend this hotel once the construction beside them is complete. The only slight negative inside is that the shower could use a little more pressure. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean with nice appointments.
“Modern and cosy”
Excellent hotel at a good location.
“one of the best”
cant wait to go back. The roof top bar was great, rooms were clean, and the staff was great thanks
“Will stay here again”
Since husband is transitioning into retirement, wanted to save a little money on hotel for our weekend trip (we've stayed several times at Le Parker Meridian, as well as Sofitel, Algonquin, Omni Berkshire and Waldorf Astoria). He totally expected something to be "wrong" with the Strand (because the last time I tried to economize, by staying at The Time, sewage pipes backed up into our shower ... front desk actually asked "do you want to change rooms?") Happy to report The Strand was a great experience. Excellent staff, nice bar downstairs and on roof, convenient breakfast service, cool people staying there. Room was VERY small but this is not a big deal for us. We would definitely stay here again.
“I would definitely go back to this hotel.”
The hotel was walking distance to Macy's and Times Square - very convenient! The room was very clean and comfortable. Excellent staff and door service.
“WOW! What a view!”
Stayed one night at The Strand to attend a concert at Madison Square Garden. Had early flight into NYC so arrived at the hotel prior to check-in time. With no rooms immediately available, the staff (Greg the doorman) immediately offered to check my luggage and provided me with a map of Manhattan and pointed me in the direction of Times Square and nearby restaurants. Times Square and Madison Square Garden are easily within walking distance (part of the reason I picked The Strand), and after all, walking is part of the fun in the city! Felt safe doing so, too. My room was on the 15th floor and when I pulled back the window curtain, I literally took a step back and said WOW! at the view of the Empire State Building which seemed close enough to touch. If you remember to bring your camera, I bet you will want to take photos of it from your room window. Room had a comfortable king bed with six pillows plus one throw pillow. Bathroom was a bit small, but spotless and nicely designed. Also, due to space limitations, although the room offered an iron and ironing board, the board was one of those small, "tabletop" type ones which was really my only aggravation - and a minor one at that. One nice plus was the free wireless internet service, which often costs extra at Manhattan hotels. Every single staff member I encountered greeted me - even the maintenance guys who were re-wallpapering the hallway outside my room. At check-out, Gregg (the doorman) even hailed me a taxi.
“nice new find!”
Hotel was ideally located to work for this business trip Food in restaurant was excellant Staff was very attentive and had great service need a make up mirror in the room need a coffee pot in room front desk needs more info on local eating spots
“Excellent location”
What a good spot this hotel is in - easy walking distance to many places - 5th Ave, 42nd Street, Theatre District, Hop on Buses, parks and shops. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Loved the orchids at the reception! We would definitely go back to stay and explore more of New York. Luckily I read about the hotel rooftop view of the Empire State Building from your website as I did not see mention of it at the Hotel.
“Exceeded our expectations”
My teenage son and I spent 4 nights at the Strand and can highly recommend it. The rooms were relatively small but we expected that in New York. Our room was on the 11th floor and has a superb view of the Empire State Building. The beds were the most comfy we've ever slept in and the service was exceptional. The breakfast buffet was very good for a continental breakfast. My son missed his eggs and beacon but there's a good and very reasonably priced deli across the street to break up the routine. All in all we would give the hotel a 4.5 out of a possible 5. One small suggestion would be to either put a coffee maker into the rooms or have coffee set up in the lobby :) All in all we loved the hotel and would definitely come back! The location is awesome!
